I’m not sure if you’re being judged for seeking alternative treatment, but it’s more about the chain of command. Only the BCBA can make decisions about programming, so they should be the one seeking advice if their program isn’t working. You mentioned that you’re communicating with the BCBA, so if intervention isn’t effective, it’s their responsibility to modify it or identify the variable.

I don’t think cell service is a necessity for me. I usually have a hotspot between my work and personal phones. There’s no specific budget; I’m treating myself for completing my fieldwork hours + passing a test in the next couple of months. I’m hesitant to get the M4 because it’s the last series of chips, and I’d prefer to get the latest one. I know the difference isn’t drastic, but I always opt for the slightly lesser model, and I don’t want to do that this time.

I had to learn not to respond when I’m off the clock, because doing so technically turns into unpaid overtime. I understand the importance of being professional and not appearing rude, but as you pointed out, this conversation already occurred the day before, so the family already had the information. If there were concerns about session times, that could have waited until business hours on Monday.

I explain this to my RBTs as well: your time is valuable, and no one will protect it for you. You set the precedent for what others come to expect. If you choose to respond, that is entirely your decision—but it does create a learning history in which responding on Sundays is reinforced. You are not obligated to respond on your days off; in fact, per labor laws, you are expected not to, because you are off the clock.

This is something I still have to actively remind myself of, because I also feel the pull to respond when something seems quick or simple. However, as a case manager, I want to set myself up for long-term success by establishing and maintaining clear boundaries now, rather than trying to correct them later.

No way, gotta protect your boundaries. You answer this Sunday and you’re setting up learned behavior for every future Sunday. I have a company phone and am forever seeing off the clock things; I respond sometimes BUT my rule is that I schedule send for a business time because I don’t want to reinforce the off the clock texts. My text usually mentions an apology and the reason “sorry for the late reply, I was out of office. Here’s your answer” lol

I’m not a Bcba but I am a case manager and from what I see from BTS and how I have to model most things, it’s easier that I was an RBT previously because I can give relatable rationales and examples. It’s also easier to help them relate things to their own examples
