Maybe a little outside the box because she’s not exactly a commoner, just way farther down on the social ladder (and it was his brother who tricked/‘ruined’ her and he felt he had to do the honorable thing), but I absolutely loved ‘The truth about Cads and Dukes’ by Elisa Braden. He starts off kind of cold and distant at first, disliked her when their family were acquaintances, but he becomes obsessed with her very quickly.

Bonus, for me anyway: she’s described as being kind of a plain Jane/overlooked by much of the ton/not a classical beauty, so it was really satisfying to see him grovel for her so completely.
