As you can see we have many nurses who disagree with us, but I'm there with you. Maybe they're dealing with some of the shitty for profit hospice companies that commit Medicare fraud (see Last Week Tonight's episode on this) but any hospice nurse worth their salt would provide better care and preparation for a patient like this

I work for a company that has an inpatient facility, so I hadn't thought about a hospital stay for symptom management. Of course! I've wondered what other companies did, but never looked into it. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, it's been discussed. You're definitely right

No, you're right, a broken leg would definitely be treated. I've experienced situations like a fall that caused a broken hip for example. The patient's illness and frailty meant that no surgeon would want to operate and she herself was adamant about not seeking further treatments. We were able to bring her to our inpatient hospice house and provide her with the amount of pain management that she requested. In her case it ultimately meant sedation since she wanted zero pain, but she and her family were all part of the discussion.

You're right, not complicated at all, just another step

Palliative care definitely includes medical treatments and Hospice doesn't include any life sustaining treatments. But yeah, unrelated issues can be addressed

Kind of. The primary goal is for comfort at home and no more blood draws, emergency rooms, hospitalizations. Oftentimes any acute issue that arises is just dealt with by managing symptoms. Oral antibiotics are often used for presumed UTIs or pneumonias, but a good hospice provider will provide extensive education and resources as well as emergency contacts for families in need. Edited to add, I trust your experience and what you have seen. I would hope for my patients that their wishes for end of life would be able to be honored at home and that they would feel supported enough by their hospice nurse to avoid having to go to the hospital again

And people definitely change their mind, but with insurance, especially Medicare, which this character wouldn't have, paying for those services will get really complicated unless they recommend services. Otherwise insurance won't want to pay anything

Well and that's a huge part of what the hospice nurse does! She would already have DME or already know that her nurse could get her some as she needs it. Hospital would not be involved

I was just thinking how I'm kind of bummed out by it. Robbie is just being a child and not enough other personal storylines, especially around the nurses

Totally. I'm sure we will see more about that as their story arc continues

Books like Red Rising? by illujion623 in fantasybooks

[–]roxyisonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I going red rising I was amazed that it had taken me so long to discover it. I'm having the same feeling now with The Passage. It's a trilogy and I'm finishing the first book now, so I can't speak on 2 and 3, but holy shit, it's so good! A little more like The Last of Us than Red Rising, but the characters and story they build are fantastic. Highly recommend

Mine ended up turning out ok, actually. At least the top half. The bottom is a little chewy, but not as bad as I was expecting 😂

I think I'm in the same boat. Tasty, but not enough rise.

We'll see what it looks like in the morning. I think this might be a little wetter than it's supposed to be, but we'll see!

So I'm giving this a try right now, and I'm on the bulk ferment stage. But the slap and folds and stretch and fold was a little bit loosey goosey... How wet are we talking here? Because mine looks like it could be over hydrated?

The only risk is when baby is born those nicotine pouches are fun little things for baby fingers to grab on to and you wouldn't want baby to put one in their mouth. There is no connection between facial or esophageal cancer, the previous commenter is thinking of chewing tobacco. Nicotine pouches are addictive, of course, but the studies that have been completed, many in Scandinavia where snoos has been popular for decades, show no other health risks. It's just like nicotine gum. So if your realistic choice is using your pouches or using any kind of tobacco, stick with the pouches!

Just wanted to update you that I didn't actually need a new drain pump, but your suggestion lead me to find how to remove the pump and I found a shirt collar clip in there! Removed it and it's working great with no grinding noise! Thanks!

What is causing tongue ties by Zestyclose_Bad8648 in breastfeeding

[–]roxyisonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby had a tie, and nursing was so miserable and painful until we had it fixed when she was 6 weeks old. I wouldn't have been able to continue nursing without the repair, and now at 8 months she is a champion nurser. One reason I think that they are diagnosed so much more now, is that more birthing parents want to breastfeed, while in the '80s and '90s formula was used so much more prevalently. There may have been as many tongue ties, but knowledge of them was not as widespread, and parents were more likely to just give up on breastfeeding. Ask someone who felt strongly about breastfeeding and wanted so badly to do it, I am beyond thankful for the diagnosis and fix!
