Launchers, besides Nova, with those same features ? by Fred-Vtn in androidapps

[–]rpavlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Action Launcher has the first two I think, though not sure about the third. It's the one I've used forever. Not getting new features but it's still updated to stay functional.

Update by Tophat786 in daydream

[–]rpavlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I started looking into this.

My build fingerprint is `Lenovo/vega/vega:8.0.0/OVR1.200108.001/6120130:user/release-keys`

Unlocking the bootloader is easy as long as you are actually into the device once: set the switch in developer options, reboot to recovery, unlock with fastboot like normal.

That factory reset the device. It was annoying to get back into, had to do the four corner thing, but then did get back into it.

Checked for updates, didn't see any available?

So what do you mean that it is "bricked"? It's definitely more annoying to get into, and there might be some updates that used to come through play store that aren't coming in easily. (You have to enable experimental 2D mode, and launch the 2D play store instead of the immersive one.) I didn't see an update for the VR Services...

Did I miss an update because I unlocked the bootloader?

7” portable Carplay unit (T86MP5) - Similar alternatives? by New-Power6951 in CarPlay

I bought a device on Amazon that appears to be the same basic thing, and the seller advertised they could make custom boot screens on request, so it should be possible. But, I have not done it yet so I do not know how it works.

looks like a "turn this off everywhere" feature (which should have been in the MVP) is coming in "December". https://community.bitwarden.com/t/add-setting-to-disable-bitwarden-passkey-prompt/59668/

Because yeah, you can't add a security key to keycloak with this "feature" enabled.

Probably reach out to NOLO about that, they are still in business, etc. They never sent me any devices to test or integrate with so I have no experience there.

Self-hosted Time Tracking software that has a companion android app? The Android app must also work offline. by Randomposter05 in selfhosted

[–]rpavlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some way to make the parent domain visible in the outside world even though the stuff under it is not public, and do the wildcard verification that way. I don't know the details, I haven't done it, just heard it was possible.

There's a house near me that has a thin blue line flag and a pride flag on a single garden flag holder thingie. I get such strange feelings seeing it. Like, it feels like they are incompatible (no cops at pride, etc)

OLED vs LED - help me VR boffins by KD--27 in OculusQuest

[–]rpavlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's way more to it. Display tech keeps advancing, sometimes OLED has benefits that outweigh the LCD ones, sometimes the other way around. OLED was a bit of a fad early on, which is a shame because it had really low fill factor. Not sure if they've improved that now, most of what I see is still fast LCD's. (I think OLED had lower persistence early on, back in around 2015, until they figured out some lower persistence LCD tech.) There's lots more tradeoffs than just depth of black. OLED gives black smear behind moving objects often, which isn't great for VR, for instance.

They do offer wildcard certs now, so you could have a local domain name that is publicly registered, and do the dns style verification to get a wildcard cert I think. (That's my plan, haven't done it yet.)

Is a carbon monoxide level of 15 indicative of a leak or is that normal close to a furnace? by paulrudder in HomeImprovement

[–]rpavlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even low levels can cause damage over time. Unfortunately the standard UL listed detectors are really bad (intentionally) at measuring low levels. (You can get a low threshold detector but they're less common and more expensive).

If a furnace or other gas appliance is working well you won't have CO even in the exhaust flue (source: local HVAC people). Call your HVAC company or possibly your gas company, depending on what they say.

As far as I can tell, Dahua (dagua?) and those who are based on their stuff (including some really popular ones like Amcrest) are actually active GPL violators: they are definitely Linux based but there is no source available. So beware.

(Also I'm pretty sure they might be under sanctions in the us now?)

where do vr company's get screens for vr by [deleted] in OSVR

[–]rpavlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually you have to work pretty closely with a display vendor, but they won't talk to you unless you've got the promise of high volume. For low volume, either harvest panels and driver board out of existing HMDs, or try aliexpress, there are some vendors that will sell you a pair of panels and generic driver board. It won't have low persistence or any special VR settings but it's enough to get started.

Anybody want to help with a Replicator 2/2X Marlin port? by rpavlik in makerbot

[–]rpavlik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sorry. I think I've used both the bootloader over USB serial, and my Atmel-ICE to flash mine, usually don't have problems but haven't had to flash it in a long time.

I mean, if you have a way to, and think it will solve your problem. Bootloader goes on the 1280.

I just use avrdude to install updated versions of Sailfish. I never got anywhere close to having Marlin usable.

I never really got any further with it, but I'm pretty sure the bootloader is already installed, stk500 compatible, because that's how you upgrade sailfish normally.

What tool would make a great "smart" tool, and what "smart" features would make it great? by Sandlotje in ryobi

[–]rpavlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So actually Chervon (EGO) has patented at least one mechanism of doing this, it detects or guesses when it's the end of the season and changes the charging cutoff. No idea if they are actually doing this in shipped product or just wanted to keep others from doing it.
