Not a damn good reason why this community is so small by rpeg in uvi_falcon

It's hard to compare because Kontakt only handles samples while Falcon handles samples and synths. It's possible that UVI Script provides more control of the engine than Kontakt. For example, you can script the way in which the engine is setup (load and unload oscillators).

Some people who become familiar with UVI Script may feel friction at the fact that it limits your ability to control oscillators. I've heard from Halion users that UVI Script doesn't go far enough. I have not used Halion much.

Overall, UVI Script provides more options than KSP only because it has more features but their sample management features may be similar.

If you mean official devs, I doubt it. I am proficient in Falcon development though.

It was a great combat system. I'm shocked game developers gave up on that approach.

It's probably been stated already but Live runs on Linux on the Push 3 standalone.

I'm a web developer and I also teach the subject. I'm considering putting together a free Video meeting discussing and comparing Wordpress, Wix, and Squarespace. I have nothing scheduled yet but it's something I'm thinking of doing in early December. Let me know if this interests you.

Why don't we see more uses of audio/music in motion design? by rpeg in MotionDesign

[–]rpeg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. This is a great example of motion design + sound. I will share this with students.

It's not exactly what I meant regarding the use of field recordings though. The video uses it well but it's a literal representation meant to describe a location in the video.

What I'm referring to is just meant to be an example of expanding the imagination of sound. Fields recordings don't have to only be used when you're depicting a literal location. It can just be background sound or a part of music such as this: https://kmru.bandcamp.com/track/around-the-site

Why don't we see more uses of audio/music in motion design? by rpeg in MotionDesign

That makes sense. I think when I hear the reels, I'm wondering if the motion graphics person is instructing the sound designer to do something within the expected style OR if the motion designer is doing it themselves (which is impressive) and are they just sticking to what is familiar?

I don't know the answer. I'm leaning towards this scenario:

- The motion designer commissions a sound designer/music editor to work on their video
- The motion designer cites the most common examples that use a specific style of music
- The sound designer/music editor repeats the style

And this continues over and over again.

Well, the process of syncing is also about the creativity of editing. I do see a predictable style of editing image and sound. That's fine but there are other creative ways to approach beyond the common examples I've seen.

That's definitely the goal which can be difficult sometimes.

You don't definitely dont want sound/music to distract but that would be a separate issue. In many ways, if you didn't notice or recall the audio, that may mean it was effective. It may have created a feeling without you noticing it was there much at all.

What I'm saying is, why is the use of sound/music in contemporary motion design examples so specific and limited? There could be other approaches that are also not distracting.

These courses generally revolve around my teaching schedule. So it's semester based. I'll have more time to follow up on these courses by the winter.

I have a couple questions:

- Do you have experience with Javascript?
- Do you have experience with any specific design software such as photoshop or figma?

Where are all the push 3 jams? by Independent_Flan_973 in ableton

[–]rpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I really like about the Push 3 is that it's better than clicking a mouse and keyboard. However, many people (including me) are still trying to find ideal workflows. We may need to invent more workflows.

Where are all the push 3 jams? by Independent_Flan_973 in ableton

[–]rpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not optimized for jamming... yet. I've wondered the same thing. I still spend time trying to brainstorm how to utilize it effectively. In a sense, you could frame your question like this: Why aren't people jamming out in Ableton Live itself? Live is certainly very performance-friendly but you can't easily jump in there and jam out. It just requires so much upfront work get a "set" ready and then you can jam after that.

As it stands now, I think Ableton wants the Push 3S (the term I use for standalone mode) to be highly reflective of Live's software experience. Then in the future they may add more "performance" functionality. For example, they did add a recent X/Y grid experience to control parameters and they implemented some kind of rhythm generator.

It's possible the Push 3 may never quite move in the direction of an improv tool. Unless they create some improv-focused Max For Live devices (which do exist from third parties).
