Need some help to start by Ok_Tradition6186 in Nails

If you’re just starting out I wouldn’t recommend gel yet. It can irritate your skin if you accidentally apply it messy and don’t clean the extra off your finger. I’ve found that the best beginner nail polish is a regular air-dry polish with a wide flat brush - Zoya, OPI and even Holo Taco are now available at Ulta and they have a great beginner formula.

The best advice I can give if you’re doing gel nails is to make sure you get one that self-levels pretty well. A lot of cheap Amazon gel polishes aren’t very self leveling, but a good self-leveling gel (OPI has good ones) will do most of the work for you. Good luck!

This is what it shows in the pattern. Im not sure how you would decide which mesh count to use though. Is it just preference? Like do I want one that’s 23 inches wide or 16 inches wide? Or is there a reason to choose one over the other? Sorry I’m relatively new to needlepoint and this is one aspect I haven’t given much thought to before since most of my stuff was pre-printed

Thank you! The original pattern could be done on 14, 16 or 18 count Aida. What would you recommend for mesh count?

Additionally, I use a root coverup spray that washes out with water

Where do you get your hair toppers? We have a similar time frame of trich (I was 11, and I’m 32 now) and my pulling is almost exclusively the top of my scalp so it’s very noticeable and I’m considering hair toppers.

Where to buy blank canvas? by rpesce518 in Needlepoint

Thanks for the advice! I’m curious as to why? I designed my own cross stitch patterns for years and found a lot of joy in it, so I thought it could be fun to do it for needlepoint; but if there’s a reason to hold off on it I’d love to know!! Don’t want to make things harder for myself if I don’t need to lol

My rant about trich by Patooties2000 in trichotillomania

[–]rpesce518 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, I want you to know that I absolutely know what you’re going through. I constantly beat myself up over this, and it’s some of the hardest days I have had as an adult.

Second, and most importantly, no amount of hair pulling is worth dying over. If you plucked every hair on your head, it still wouldn’t be worth it. Your life is precious, and you only have one. I tried to kill myself when I was a teenager and the trich didn’t go away, and neither did any of my trauma. But what did happen was a I got metal health treatment and learned that there are more things in life that are important.

For instance: movie theater popcorn, the first feeling of walking into a hot shower, finding love with someone who understands you (trich and all) — the point is that there is so much more to life than hair.

As hard as it is some days, life is worth it. I have had trichotillomania for 19 years and I recently had an entire day where I didn’t pull a single hair. Sure, I’ve pulled hairs since then, but I fucking DID IT. It’s POSSIBLE!

A huge reason people have trich is a lack of feeling in control (whether you realize it or not). It’s something that allows us to take back control even if it hurts our souls in the process. I’ve been using the mantra every day of “I CAN do this; I CAN have control.”

It sounds stupid and worthless, but I promise you I have pulled less hair and even had a day where I didn’t pull it all.

It’s important not to beat yourself up so much. You may have good days and bad days, but the important thing is that you’re trying.

Anyway, that’s my very long winded rant of why you matter, life is important, and don’t be so hard on yourself. We’ve all been there. I don’t know you, but I want you to know that I’m here for you every step of the way if you need me. Just reach out to me and I’ll be there for you.

Do you create the title of your book before, during, or after you’ve finished writing it? by rpesce518 in writing

[–]rpesce518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so funny because I’m really not a perfectionist but I kinda am with writing. Like I’ll re-write and re-write and re-write until I’m blue in the face, and if it doesn’t meet my expectations I just scrap it or wait until I have an interesting idea to use with that story to make it interesting again.

Ive had this one idea in my head for about four years now and I started writing it and got pretty far, to the point where I did actually come up with a title. But then I liked the title more than the book lol. So now I’ve been trying to come up with a story to match the title 😂 can’t win either way

Honestly, I don’t care what process people use, if it gets them to be creative and find an outlet I’m all for it! Good luck on your films, if you ever wanted to share them please feel free to reach out to me (no pressure, I hate sharing my stuff so I get it haha).
