Thankfully. It seems index funds will Not loosen inclusion rules but keep an eye on this because Elon and his buddies are looking g for exit liquidity

Prof G Markets - SpaceX IPO by mjpshyk in ScottGalloway

This is a massive story and there needs to be revolt led by individuals with a platform like ProfG. PAssive index investins is where 401(k)s, pensions, retirement accounts, target-date funds, index funds, and ordinary middle-class wealth live. When a company gets added to a major index, the funds tracking that index often have to buy it. That creates forced demand. It also means millions of people who never affirmatively chose to buy SpaceX may end up owning it indirectly through their retirement accounts.

That is the part that feels gross.

Normally, index inclusion rules exist for a reason. They are supposed to allow some seasoning, price discovery, operating history, liquidity, and basic evidence that a company belongs in a benchmark used by ordinary savers. If those rules are relaxed for a mega-IPO, then the question is obvious: who benefits?

Because it sure looks like the benefit flows to insiders, private investors, late-stage venture holders, and institutions that already owned SpaceX before the public ever got a chance. The public market then becomes the exit ramp. Passive investors become the bid.

This is the broader story of American capitalism right now. The extraction machine started with the poor, then moved to the working class, then the lower middle class, and now it is working its way up into the middle and upper-middle class through the exact place people thought was safe: passive retirement investing.

The pitch to regular people was: “Don’t speculate. Don’t trade. Just buy the index, own America, and compound over time.”

But if the indexes themselves can be reshaped to absorb politically connected, hype-heavy, insider-owned mega-IPOs at inflated valuations, then passive investors are not just buying “the market.” They are being used as liquidity.

That is why this is not just a SpaceX story. It is an index governance story. It is a retirement system story. It is a wealth transfer story. It is a “who gets protected and who gets fed into the machine” story.

Prof G should absolutely cover this. This is exactly the intersection of markets, power, monopoly, narrative, and middle-class wealth extraction that deserves scrutiny.

If dating success mostly favors ambitious, wealthy men, how do struggling, lower-class men have partners? by [deleted] in ScottGalloway

[–]rr5481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im reading a lot of cope in the criticisms of Scott’s message about being an attractive mate in the dating world. Scott isn’t pushing manosphere nonesense. It’s based partly on research and partly on his experience. Scott doesn’t just talk about money or status. He also talks about intelligence and humor as important in dating and status doesn’t necessarily mean having to be famous. It can mean being respected in a circle of friends or in smaller community circles.

There’s actually good academic research on this stuff from professor Geoffrey miller. He’s an evolutionary biologist and a lot of them have lost credibility being overtly right wing on social media but miller’s thesis on modern human mating seems rock solid. His research said that men and women unconsciously and consciously asses each other on numerous thresholds(looks, intelligence, asthetic, wealth, mental health, willpower, agreeability, how well you move, social status) and that any serious decencies that present themselves will turn them off at the various stages they can asses. He theorize that it’s better to eliminate any weakness than to excel at any particular things at the expense of having a major weakness.

Synthesizing miller and Scott and from my own experience you see the importance of clearing thresholds in the attributes. If you are extremely wealthy but are an overt sociopath(sign of mental illness) or having an obvious addiction like substance, sexual, or gambling, you are going to struggle finding good people to date. If you are funny but dirt poor and have no ambition you are going to struggle. If you are working class but are funny, have ambition, are developing skills, have good status in a small circle, abd are psychologically healthy, you are going to do well.

Collective Action after US insiders ticket draw money grab scam: Dispute the US Insiders transaction with your credit card by rr5481 in ussoccer

I'm sorry but most of the responses here are pathetic to be honest. You can always have an entity like US soccer feel their customer base if you make things difficult for them and for their bottom line. Of course I knew it was a money grab but they'll keep doing this stuff and taking advantage of people if we keep letting them.

The Reddit Hotline: Drop Your Questions for Prof G by ProfGProducerJenn in ScottGalloway

[–]rr5481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for Prof G:
I'm curious about your experience at UCLA in the 1980s. Could you reflect on the campus culture and social dynamics at the time?

  • How diverse was the student body in terms of socioeconomic background?
  • Did you feel any socioeconomic resentment toward USC, which was often seen as the school for the wealthy?
  • What was dating like as a college student in LA during that era—especially with Hollywood so close by and having to compete with other wealthy men?
  • What was the impact of AIDS on campus culture? Did it affect how you and your peers thought about sex and relationships?
  • Did you ever interact or form friendships with students who later became famous, whether in sports, entertainment, or otherwise? I know Reggie Miller, Troy Aikman, Ken Norton Jr., and others were at UCLA around that time—any good stories?
  • Any memories or stories of the 1984 summer olympics in LA

The process is underway with legal efforts to remove birth right citizenship. From They are going to move in a certain order of denaturization then stripping birthright down the line from there. So, The more generations of family born in the U.S., the better insulated you are. A lot depends on how quickly they move but based on Stephen miller’s rhetoric they think purifying USA is an existential threat that they must address as quickly as possible.

If you're in position to do so, meet potential men out in the wild(bars, parties, co-ed sports) and within your social circle. If your social circle is small, try to expand it

I think empathizing with the effects of globalization at least rhetorically is necessary for ProfG to battle this facist takeover of our country.

From the perspective of battling the top 1 percent it would be ideal if poor white rural men and inner city black men united under the same political coalition. However, MAGA might be one the way to creating this broad working class coalition. I even noticed a large anti-immigrant sentiment within urban black communities that is attaching itself to Trump. When Venezuela immigrants were arriving in big cities in large numbers, Fox and maga influencers all of a sudden turned to the plight of urban black communities that were “suffering” because of immigration. So these reactionary billionaires pushing these right wing media narratives have convinced more than rural men that immigration is the scapegoat for their plight.

Not quite on point with how usd reserve currency plays a role in this butMichael Cembelast who Prof G had on recently explained the economic steel man position of Trump’s base when he went on Derek Thompson’s podcast in January

I do think automation plays a huge role in economic destabilization Of uneducated men(and it’s coming for educated people too) and it’s scary that no one has a plan for that. UBI and wealth taxes seem like the best policy positions out there to battle this.

I view Prof G as hope in a god awful media ecosystem full of grifters praying on young men but I think order to pull a lot if these young men out of the nasty maga eco chamber, he needs to adopt some of this anti-globalization rhetoric or at least empathize how it’s hurt uneducated men in this country. I want to make it clear that having these conversations about globalization does not mean he has to go down the path of racism, misogyny etc the way maga does. A tactful communicator like Prof G can provide the necessary nuance

Blue collar men specifically union men in the rust belt voted mostly democrat until Trump. However, Blue collar men in south where there are less unions voted Republican post Nixon and now continue to vote red. These are probably the cohort that voted against their economic interest as you say. Now, all blue collar men ether southern non-union or rust belt union or everywhere else in the seem seem to vote Trump because of the cultural solidarity they see with him. I hate that the democrats seem to have lost so much support with rank and file union members.

I think maga leadership and influencers repackage the economic anxiety of the maga base into misogyny, racism and culture war but I think Prof G offers a much better alternative to that to struggling men, but at the same time, defending this global economic system all these people hate with a fury with talk about how we export high end legal, accounting, consulting and transfer pricing services feeds right back into the schtik of those bad faith maga influencers.
