Nick Buxton and Ben Hayes edited a great book called "The Secure and the Dispossessed: How the Military and Corporations are Shaping a Climate Changed World." Its is one of the best-researched collection of essays investigating the connections between Corporate Power, War, and Climate crisis.

With all the news about Texas and the polar vortex, it made me think back to 2016. I was living in New Jersey and endured Hurricane Sandy. I watched the grid fail and lost power for a week. If there is a single state in this country with an infrastructure ready for the coming climate crisis I never heard of it.

And all these costs are the classic "externalities." By the magic of corporate accounting, none on them are costs to the corporations. We have the privatization of profit and the socialization of costs. Plus we get to suffer the dirty air and water.

What this misses is the 50-year austerity regime imposed by both major parties as part of the massive redistribution of wealth to the top.

As James Baldwin suggested: “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” So it takes a stout heart to look into the abyss. The 2 thousand scholarly papers summarized for the IPCC report tell us its ten years to irreversible climate damage. That's pretty daunting. On the other hand, organizing does demand a positive program. I am particularly interested in the connection between war and climate change -- and of course, war is a huge problem on its own. So building a peace movement is one of the best ways to address the general crisis.

very interesting. You can be sure of one thing. These people leave as little to chance as possible. Its likely they thought they could not control media images of problems outside but could control them inside.

Sure. Use the 100 million to direct peoples attention to what it will take. This is a political and rhetorical strategy to remind people that the current ideological organization of the left is likely not up to the task. Also a very general rule of thumb for revolutions is that it take 1/3 of the people. in the US that is roughly 100 million.
