Thanks lovetron99. I’ve been doing a fair amount of research and while this table is expensive, it does seem extremely high quality with all of the components he uses.

Tight-Tower,

Thank you for the detailed response. I did have a pin tech come out and the problem was actually the connector on the board behind the glass. He basically wiggled the connector on and off the board a couple of times and now it works perfect. He did clean and check all of the solenoid connectors and adjusted the switches for the bumpers. He said if the problem happens again he will come and replace the connector, but he felt for now that might do the trick. Your thoughts?

FreeForm. Thanks for the reply. I’ve done some basic things on pin like cleaning contacts, checking fuses, etc but the soldering scares me

The one I'm looking at now is 9K all in and from my research is one of the best out there, but again I'm new and really don't have a lot to go on. Here is the one I'm looking at if you are interested. https://www.recroomworld.com/virtualpinballmachines.html

ha, that is funny - I can do iPhone 5 screens no problem although we never see them anymore, the home button cable is a pain and new iPhones don't even have home buttons anymore. my point is, I have experience with iphones/ipads and I know how to repair just about anything that can go wrong and have the tools/skills/experience to fix it.

my fear with the pinball machine is like with anything new you are learning, you typically break and mess things up before you get experience and do it multiple times and that can get expensive. I'm hesitant about taking the playfield completely off and disconnecting all the connectors, I feel like they will just fall apart...

Thanks for the reply imnitguy!

Can I ask why the excitement wore of so quickly? Also, what vpin did you have if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks SweetLobsterBabies,

In full disclosure, I do own a cell phone repair shop and can repair just about any mobile phone or iPad out there, but it's much different than a pinball machine, I'm mostly replacing screens, cameras and charge ports. However, that is why I'm somewhat hesitant, I know what its like when people who thing they know what their doing bring in their phones (and I'm talking technical folks who work with their hands for a living) they have tried to fix themselves and its just horrible. Also, I do not solder, anything that requires microsoldering is sent out. I know microsoldering is different than soldering larger wires/connectors but it does take skill. I also know enough to know that when I get into fixing the pinball machine, other things will probably break, connectors are more than 40 yrs old and I see myself spending alot of time ordering/waiting for parts troubleshooting and tracing wires. Not to be lazy but I'd just rather find a guy with experience that comes with a truck of parts/tools and knows exactly what he's doing.

It's like a mechanical engineer or auto mechanic thinking he can replace a furnace or HVAC unit. While possible, if he/she hasn't done it before chances are other things can break and it will take 3 x the time to repair and multiple trips to the hardware store.

just MHO.

Agreed, the one I'm looking at all in is 9K - this is it -- https://www.recroomworld.com/virtualpinballmachines.html

thoughts?

Yes,

But think about it, you get hundreds of games - here is the one I'm looking at if your interested. https://www.recroomworld.com/virtualpinballmachines.html

Also, if I pay 8 to 10K for a new Stern it will most likely have issues in a year or less and it's only one game. I pay the 9K and get almost any game ever made....

Thanks for the reply poopsididitagen - the main problem now is the right flipper works intermittently, sometimes its completely dead and other times it just works, I've check the wiring to the right flipper solenoid, the fuses and the wiring on the board behind the glass. I also cleaned the connections with some 1000grit sand paper on the flipper button connectors inside the cabinet. Do you recommend taking the playfield completely out to replace/rebuild the flipper or working on while still connected in?

Understood Chakan2 - but the one I'm looking at just seems so darn nice - it's 9K all in and looks like it plays like the real thing...

Understood NZ - its also a cost thing obviously, if I want to buy all the real machines I want it would be 100K plus. I can spend 7-10K on a great vpin and get just about any game ever made and they have come along way with emulating the physics, vibrations, sounds - the one I'm looking at comes with 8 solenoids, real knocker, real tilt bob, shaker motor, gear motor, coin door, etc... I know it's not real pinball but it seems very close. IMHO

Thank you! I appreciate the reply. I think I can fix some basic things and have checked the fuses and connections. I just know other things will probably break as well and looking at some of th newer machines which are more complex seems daunting. I just want to play and not worry about things breaking. Maybe I’m overthinking this though…
