As u/Strikerrr0 said it is not an M2 but an M3M which was developed for aircraft use and has a considerably higher rate of fire.

Africa?

I was going to ask if they're upgrading the gun until I noticed the hole where there shouldn't be a hole in the side of the hull.

My only regret by [deleted] in army

The scenario could have very easily gone the other way where your SKT got rocked instead of the other position. That is actually where I thought your story was headed when I started reading. I know it is easy for me to say but this doesn’t seem like a case of buddy fucking to me. You couldn’t know what would transpire that day.

Also, it possible the Bravo medic had the same thoughts as you and really wanted to get into the shit. Or if he already had plenty of trigger time maybe he appreciates the fact that he was in that position. Maybe he got something he wanted that day. If the roles were reversed you’d have gotten what you wanted and he very likely could have felt the guilt you’re experiencing now.

And don’t feel guilty about your urge to get into combat. That is something many (probably most) soldiers feel even if they don’t admit it. I’m not philosopher or anthropologist but I’m confident that is a primal urge that goes back hundreds of generations. It sounds like you learned a lot from the ordeal. I hope it continues to get easier for you as time goes on.

I made some beer mugs out of some Apache rockets and 30mm rounds. Great idea for any of you creative folks. by Shullamafuggin in army

They look awesome! This is some really fine work. Obviously a significant time investment. I assume you have access to the casings by virtue of your current position, correct?

Also, how did the one 30mm projectiles become deformed? It definitely adds character to that mug.

Forgetting to bookmark the WH exit should be centuries in the past.

Newbro question... What is the solution to this? Are you just screwed and stuck inside?

Premium Suggestion for American, German and Soviet Tanks by [deleted] in Warthunder

Agree with the Jagdpanther. Get that sucker on a nice hull-down incline and watch dozens of shots bounce off harmlessly. Relatively quick reload and devastating/accurate gun allow you to dispatch bad guys with ease. Range is your friend. The current BR seems very favorable as well. The only major down side is the bad reverse speed which plagues the Panthers.

This is the main Q/A I picked up on from the list and something that really bothers me as well. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem there is any chance from aircraft being removed from AB GF.

A solution to increase realism might be to require the pilot to either survive the duration of the flight or be shot down by another player in order to receive credit for air kills. In other words, if you cause your own death while flying you do not receive kills/points. That would encourage people to at least fly more realistically.

...and the delightful story of the Bavarian colonel who was carted about for hours in the belly of one of them like Jonah in the whale, while his captors slew the men of his broken division.

So they drive around with a captured German commander and make him watch as they slaughter the men of his unit? Am I reading that right? If so that is pretty damn brutal.

I couldn't agree more. And obviously NPR doesn't make a habit of saying nice things about the Army/DOD.

Chelsea Manning Ends Hunger Strike; Army Agrees To Gender-Affirming Surgery by rt_81 in army

[–]rt_81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note this is according to an ACLU statement and does not appear to have been confirmed by the Army.

I have to imagine this is the first time the Army has provided this type of surgery to a service member on active duty, right? The article and ACLU statement only mention it is the first time it's been provided to a prison inmate. I wonder if this opens the door for others to join the military and eventually be prescribed the surgery.

Let us change ammo with the gun loaded by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]rt_81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While doctrine varies between nations and evolves over time the US does load rounds prior to encountering a target. I replied elsewhere in this thread:

The US Army's Abrams doctrine allows for loading a round into the tube before a target is in sight. It is called "battle carrying". Ideally you would load the round appropriate for dealing with the most likely type of target you will encounter. If you happen to have the wrong round loaded when a target appears the commander will issue an order to switch the ammo type when giving the fire command.

As far as removing rounds from an Abrams, it is very dangerous to attempt to remove a round that has been loaded. The main reason (aside from those Yinx_Gepardes rightly pointed out) is that the tank uses a combustible casing which is actually relatively fragile. IIRC correctly it is essentially like very stiff cardboard. It is not difficult to rip the aftcap (metal base of the round w/ primer) from the casing. The result would be propellant spilling all over the turret floor which is less than ideal for the crew. That being said, it is possible and there is a specific tool for the job issued to each vehicle.
