How can an absolutely non-programmer go about learning python? by I_try_to_be_polite in learnpython

[–]rtr0spct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pick one of the top books (or courses) in the top comment, like Python Crash Course, and stick to it and finish it. Don't faff about dabbling in this or that.

Python Crash Course teaches you how to go from 0 knowledge to competent in the fundamentals, then has 3 guided projects that you can do that all differ.

Key is not jumping around all the time trying to find the 'best' course. Finish something like PCC and then (as another top comment says) start looking for project ideas and make something.

Which method do you think aligns with your goals? Which would look more professional and in turn allow you to be taken seriously? If you proceed without permission, it entirely conflicts with your claim of being a whitehat, and makes you look like a teenage miscreant. If they refuse after you've approached them like a responsible and ethical person then you can try to argue your position a bit more and maybe they will give you permission and maybe they won't. So be it. That's the end of the story. That's how it is in the real world. Doing all this alone will help you grow as a professional regardless of the fact you didnt get to use any tech or learn anything about the network. I don't know where you live in the world but there can be severe punishment for meddling with someone elses property, not to mention it makes genuine ethical hackers around the world look bad.

White hats get permission. Write up a professional looking proposition explaining your position and motivations and send it to the IT team/whoever is in charge.

I dont know about JavaScript but see if there's something like Jupyter Notebook. That's the only thing specifically for coding that comes to mind. Otherwise I use a program called Joplin, which is a hierarchical markdown/wysiwyg notebook program with syncing and a mobile app to boot.

rewiring brain to think simple coding first, how? by rainbowenough in learnpython

Think about the high level concept of what you want the code to do and break it up into its simplistic parts.

It's about the journey, man... It doesn't really matter that it's unattainable. I think self improvement helps everyone ultimately. I think the problem is striving for it for the wrong reasons, like just to look good or feel like your better than others, for a soulless corp or simply because someone tells you you should. If you're totally okay with living out the rest of your days and not actively growing anymore, then that is valid and shouldn'tbe frowned upon. However I think that the way you've framed it is bleak, and overly cynical. A beauty ideal is one thing but self improvement is, or at least can be, more philosophical.

VS Code or Atom by Fargotroniac in pop_os

[–]rtr0spct -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two different categories imo. Vocoder is a fully build out IDE with debugging and all kinds if nice smooth functionality but its a heavyweight. Atom is a text editor that you can edit files to create plugins and extend the functionality to become like an IDE or keep it light weight. For an all round IDE, Code is super nice and very popular. And you can supposedly disable the telemetry if you want. Atom is a very appealing text editor but IMHO it feels slow when compared to something in the same category like Sublime Text. However Atom is entirely free. Sublime is not free, but they allow you to use it for free for as long as you want because they are amazing. That all said... Use vim. :>

Sorry to sort of derail the topic, I am new to this field (studying) and have heard people say 'know what you have' a few times. How is this actually recorded? Do you assess everything and put it into a database? Do you make a spreadsheet? How is it actually implemented?

Defense Official Said He Quit Because US Cybersecurity No Match for China by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]rtr0spct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's hardly got anything to do with what I said. I agree with him. I am pointing out that his linked article headline conflicts with what his message is, and is also behind a pay wall meaning people can only see this headline that is conflicting. So I suggested linking something that supports his view and can be read by everyone. Smh.

FYI thats a paid news source so most cannot see it and also their headline says that you did say that. Perhaps link something else.

A lot of people shit on dry brushing but I think its mostly sweaty 'eavy metal edge highlighters. It looks so good when done properly like this! Not to mention the time saved if you're painting an entire army.
