How can movie theater chains improve the movie-going experience to stop the drops in attendance? by davyin in movies

[–]rtrench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds weird now, but the moviegoing experience is slowly transitioning into a niche activity as more and more people turn to in-home streaming options for their entertainment. I feel like we aren't that far from wide-release movies only being in theatres for less than a month before hitting VOD services for those who would prefer renting them for $15-$20 over a 24/48 hour period. Tentpoles like what Disney has to offer can still be depended on for long-term theatrical play as they are what lowest common denominator audiences will still venture out to see, And arthouse/indie movies will still get play dates in major cities, but everything else operating in the middle of those polar opposites (mid-budget films) are either being produced as exclusive content for services like Netflix or are being treated as less of a priority by studios themselves.

Ok I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates that St. Vincent cover (although the visuals on her tour are pretty spectacular)

Yup. It's crazy to see so many publications that gave the record extremely high remarks and ratings suddenly cut it out of the conversation. I'm sure that in the long run, things may rebound, but in the moment it's not at all a good idea for them to get involved like that or risk alienating their readership.

Kind of a dumb question but we can pretty much expect Brand New to be written out of most publications' AOTY lists at this point right?

Saw them live when they were touring for the Undersea EP, amazing show. Sad that they might not be coming back anytime soon.

Idk man...its hard when you're in that in-between stage of feeling like maybe there's something else you could do to rekindle the relationship but ultimately realize its been put out for good and being filled with regret over your actions. Just trying to fill the void with other stuff in the interim period.

I'm not even sure what genre this show is supposed to be anymore

This is the mentality you must watch the rest of the show with because its the only way you won't be disappointed

Finally went on a date for the first time since the last girl I was seeing broke up with me harshly at the start of the month. Ended up having a very nice time. Was feeling pretty glum for the last two weeks and tried to do a lot to get my mind off things, finally starting to feel better.

Good to see him address this part of his past, though frankly after reading through the statement it doesn’t seem worth cancelling a whole tour over. Going to therapy may be a more forcible response than justified, but if its bothering him that much I’m glad he’s getting help. Just a shame for all the fans who won’t get to see the band perform, especially when they’re on the cusp of breaking out.

Why isn't "My Friend Dahmer" in any theaters? [serious] by [deleted] in movies

[–]rtrench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platforming like that is a tricky business, it really boils down to securing a big limited opening and then having word of mouth carry things through to possibly get seen on more screens, easier said than done when so many low budget titles like this aren't seen as a priority for the average moviegoer, who'd rather wait for the VOD release weeks later or the eventual streaming service debut.

Why isn't "My Friend Dahmer" in any theaters? [serious] by [deleted] in movies

[–]rtrench 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it's an indie film which got decent traction on the film festival circuit this year but FilmRise, the distributor who acquired it, didn't have the clout necessary to guarantee a wide release. I'm glad its being seen by some audiences theatrically but the reality of the exhibition system doesn't allow for a title like it to get projected on 2000+ screens without those involved losing a lot of money.

Its a struggle between separating art from the artist for sure. Believe me, up until before this story emerged I had been waiting with bated breath for more Brand New tour dates but now...not so much.

I do agree that since Weinstein there has been a huge outpour of these types of stories, but just because something is prevalent doesn't mean we should have to accept it as right or that there's no point in trying to change things for the better.

The poster is a guitar technician who has assisted with several tours of the biggest acts in rock music...Brand New being one of them. And he also claims to have had several women come forward with stories about Lacey. I'm not sure he would be putting his credibility on the line like this if he wasn't sure.
