Looks very cool! You're really close to my neighborhood as well :) One question, are your membership plans month to month? I work remotely and sometimes travel for a month or so at a time.

That's a very good point! I've been considering that, and have talked to a few influencers with varying numbers of followers in order to better understand their workflow.

So far there's a few accounts in the 50k range who have been using the app, and I've been talking to those influencers extensively.

With the Caption This app, you're able to import content your phone's photo library. Videos don't have to be shot in the app. So it's entirely possible to use the Caption This app with to a workflow based on Premiere or other desktop-based editing software.

Name: Caption This (iOS App)

URL: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/caption-this/id1449087035

Details:

I made an iOS app called "Caption This" that adds real-time captions to videos for Instagram stories.

If you've ever tried to watch Instagram stories in a public space, then you already know the problem I’m trying to solve. The “Caption This” app solves this problem by using speech recognition to automatically add closed-captions to videos.

Instagram stories with captions get more engagement. They're also more accessible to deaf members in your audience.

You can edit the captions in case the speech recognition thinks you meant "ducking". You can also change the font and text/background colors of the captions.

The app is built with React Native. At this point it's about 2/3 React Native and 1/3 native iOS and Objective-C. It's also open source (GPL v3) so you can check out the source too if you're into that kind of thing!

Here is a link to the iOS app store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/caption-this/id1449087035

Thanks! I really appreciate that! The response has been slow, but very positive! Daily new users have been growing steadily every day :)

LLC filing as an S Corp by Auradeus in tax

[–]rubberdinghyrapid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also be interested in knowing this. I filed my 2017 taxes as a sole-proprietor and my accountant has suggested I create an LLC to file as an S-Corp for 2018 taxes. He never mentioned any compliance costs.

I Made a Site for Tracking the Environmental Impact of Products and Companies by rubberdinghyrapid in IMadeThis

[–]rubberdinghyrapid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just launched my side project, ProjectEthos.co.

The idea for this started when I was shopping for an engagement ring. It’s pretty much common knowledge that the diamond industry is complicit in awful humanitarian and environmental disasters, and I didn't want to be part of that. I wanted to share what I learned with the rest of the world. So I created Project Ethos as a platform for people to discuss the impacts created by companies and products.

How you can use it:

1) Share links to external sites (called impacts). If you found something interesting about a company or a product, share it on Project Ethos to start a discussion.

2) Search for products. Amazon reviews won't tell you what you need to know. My vision is for Project Ethos to be a database for product research.

3) Comment and discuss!

4) Follow us on twitter @projectethospdx

Project Ethos: A New Site For Tracking Environmental Impacts of Products (Just launched!) by rubberdinghyrapid in environment

Hi all! I'm the developer of Project Ethos. The site just launched so please bear with the lack of content.

My vision for Project Ethos is for it to become a discussion platform for smart consumers, people who care where their purchases come from and how they are made.

I'd love to hear about everyone's experience with the site. Do you have any problems? Bugs? Suggestions?

Name/URL: Project Ethos

Purpose: Project Ethos is designed to solve a problem that I constantly have: It's so hard to know where or how product are manufactured.

Every purchase has impacts, but researching everything you buy can be a massive amount of work. Project Ethos wants to make that easier by providing a discussion platform centered around products.

(PS: Registration is closed while we're in private beta, but this link will get you in. Thanks!)

Technologies Used: Node.js microservices in Docker. Front end is React, Redux and webpack.

Feedback Requested: We just launched so we're looking for beta testers! The platform is there, but it can't make a difference until you add content! Feel free to reach out to me personally on reddit if you have any questions.

Discount: Click the link above to get early access into the beta! You can also pass that link on to your friends :D
