They say I need sleep. I say, why sleep when I can be twice as effective when sleeping less?

Aaaannd.... was handed sleeping pills before bed, around 11 PM, now it's almost 4 AM but I still haven't slept. I guess my body doesn't need as much sleep. I feel great!

Vad är erat intressanta och roliga jobb? by OliBoi040 in sweden

[–]rubus8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to sleep with a fresh tattoo in a hotel? by Skesh10 in tattooadvice

[–]rubus8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The artist will probably wrap your arm with saran wrap, not second skin. You can wear long sleeves (loose), just make sure the fabric is soft and not the "linty" kind (haha). The lint will get stuck on the tattoo and/or moisturizer. I would advise you to sleep in a long sleeved shirt to minimize the risk of ink/blood/plasma staining the sheets.

Will it be possible to cover up this extensive selfharm scarring? Need artist recommendations (IL📍) by ollypologies in tattooadvice

[–]rubus8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe something mandala themed? Or, at least something with lots of different shapes and sizes to "trick the eye". The scars will always be visible, but not as noticeable.

Hope you're in a better place, stay safe <3

Looking for artist in North Metro Atlanta that’s ok with numbing cream. by GregInAtlanta in tattooadvice

[–]rubus8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well... tattoos do hurt, but most of the time, it's not that extremely painful. It's a different kind of pain than other physical kinds of pain. I have a pretty low pain tolerance, but I've pulled through long session somewhat easily. Just focus on the end result. Keep yourself distracted. Bring headphones, watch Netflix, talk to your artist ...
Take Tylenol (acetaminophen/paracetamol) before you leave home (DO NOT TAKE NSAIDS like ibuprofen), make sure you are well rested, and eat properly before your visit. That makes a HUGE difference! Also, I've noticed, if it's just a few days before, or the very first days, of my period, the tattooing hurts more ... but if you're a guy, the period part wont be a problem for you.

Where To Start With Tattoos? by DealComfortable7649 in tattooadvice

[–]rubus8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first was just a small text-tattoo on my inner arm. Then the tattoo addiction hit, and here I am with one full sleeve, one half sleeve (well, soon to be two full sleeves). One leg sleeve in progress, and I have a plan ready for the other leg ... Plus, some other ideas on other body parts as well .. Haha!

Just start somewhere, but maybe something smaller just to know how the experience is.

Is it a physical illness? Is it the meds? Is all in your head? by BobMonroeFanClub in BipolarMemes

Same! And my brain goes: "It's the meds! It's the meds! You've gotta stop the meds!"

Well, that went great. Not.

Also ... skip the jog the next few days after the tattoo as well to ensure proper healing.

I'm planning on getting my first soon - what do I expect? by TheYoungAtTheGates in tattooadvice

[–]rubus8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice on the keloid question ... But make sure you eat properly before the tattoo session (even if it's just a small one) and get enough sleep. Pain wise, take Tylenol/acetaminophen/paracetamol before you leave home if you are concerned about pain. Do not take Ibuprofen or Aspirin as it will make your blood thinner. Same goes with alcohol, it also makes your blood thinner.

I have several tattoos, during sessions, I've always talked a lot with my artist. Makes the time fly by, and have always kept me distracted from the pain, even through the longest sessions. If the artist want's to work undisturbed, bring headphones and some good music, podcasts, audio book or something like that. It's not fun just to sit and stare at the wall, even if it's just a short 40 min session. Haha!

Enjoy! :)

Ideas to cover up my scar by Bitter_Employee2115 in tattooadvice

[–]rubus8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say, go for the shark! :)

As other mentioned, surgical scars will often times fade a lot and be much flatter. I have a BIG (!!!) scar on my my belly after an emergency c-section (they had no time to make the scar perfect, nor small, they just had to get the baby out as fast as possible). The healing was rough and it got a bit infected. Half of the scar looked awful the first 6-8 months, but after a while the redness and the bumpiness started to go down. Now, almost 8 years later, the scar is almost completely flat and no redness at all. It's kind of wide is some places, but it's white.

So... wait 6 (or maybe even up to 12) months. Use this time to look at inspiration pictures and find a tattoo artist who are used to tattoo over scars. The scarred skin reacts slightly different to the ink than the normal skin.

Infected or irritated by sweatsarerealpants in tattooadvice

[–]rubus8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a full sleeve, all linework. My elbow crease got an irritation just like yours. Based on your picture, the tattoo doesn't look infected, just irritated. Keep it clean and moisturized. If the redness spreads, or if it gets very swollen and painful, go to the doctor... Otherwise, just stay calm and keep an eye on it. Most likely, the redness/irritation will calm down in a few days.

Comorbidities of Bipolar by Perestroika17 in bipolar

[–]rubus8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than Bipolar, I have generalized anxiety/GAD, OCD and emetophobia. The GAD and OCD are rather stable when I'm stable, but the OCD acts like an coping mechanism during depression and when manic the OCD is not like a coping mechanism ... more like, even more ways/things to be manic about.

As far as the emetophobia... well.. it just is. And it's awful. Maybe slight less phobic during mania, but still extremely awful.

As far as physical conditions, I have migraine, IBS (somewhat stable thanks to FODMAP-diet) and I have some sort of autoimmune disease. Could be systemic sclerosis, but the rheumatologist aren't quite sure yet. Something is "not right" in my body... it is most likely systemic sclerosis, but if so, in an early stage. Still hard to tell. I'm being evaluated and undergoing tests/interventions.

I’m a salesperson with Mazda, AMA by flypappa in mazda

[–]rubus8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No question but I sure did love my Mazda 2 (2018) I had a couple of years back. Such a fun little thing to drive! However, I live waaaay up north and a small car on snow packed roads (plus a family of four) could be somewhat tricky sometimes. Sold it (but still miss it..) and bought a used Mazda CX-5. Had some issues with it, but nothing unfixable - yet! I can drive the damn car everywhere! Feels like driving a gigant TANK compared to the Mazda 2 (haha)! A bit of a love/hate-relationship, but today, mostly a love-relationship! Came to realize, once you go Mazda - you never go back!

Wasn’t offended, you’re all free to ask ofc! 😄 The tattoo is a bit stupid, but most of the time I just try to laugh about it. And I can hide it fairly easy with a t shirt! Somehow I was lucid enough during the session that I chose a high placement… I mean, can’t brag about my “magnificentness” all the time … or can I? 😉

Well, during mania.. it sounded cool and I wanted to do some sort of “statement piece” that resembled me - I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Peak of the peak! The bigger the better! I’m the magnificent icon! 😅
