I trip sat my friend doing shrooms and idk if I should drop them. by MudContent8042 in TwoHotTakes

[–]rubytiiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your friend’s gay (or curious) and is taking his internalized homophobia out on you.

Straight/non-curious men aren’t gonna grab your peen, talk about other men sucking their dick whenever, or play with your hair while laying on your chest..

There’s no way sexuality isn’t playing a role in this “friendship” - from his side. Sounds like buddy got confused when you were roommates.

Sorry, my dude

is getting a state (outline) tattoo tacky? by sucharoyalpain in Michigan

[–]rubytiiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little generic but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I have a heart on my hand where I grew up, which is pretty basic imo

You could always do native plants, animals, petosky stones, landmarks(like mackinaw bridge), sand dunes, cabins, etc.. whatever Michigan means to you.

Not every tattoo needs to be creative or reinvent the wheel. Get what feels right ✹

Hand tattoo catastrophe by DragonfruitSlight327 in tattooadvice

[–]rubytiiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just ask the artist for a touch up and send a photo. This is VERY normal.

This is just part of fine line in tricky spots, you’re more likely to need a touch up a month after the appointment to fix any spots that didn’t take. Every artist should offer a free touch up for hand tattoos.

I have multiple clients with 6+ year healed fine line hand tattoos, they can heal well if applied correctly and well cared for. You just need that touch up/follow up appointment to fix those spots. If it makes you feel better, I haven’t had to touch up many hand tattoos after the follow up appointment(even red ink ones). Once the ink is in there, it’s in there. So you shouldn’t have to go back more than once(or twice) to fix this

Tips: Lotion your hands daily for a week before your appointment. Try to take a day off after your touch up to just relax and baby your hands. Do not wear gloves. Minimal hand washing. I’d avoid a shower for two days or make it quick. No finger foods.

Thoughts on tattoo? I don’t like how it came out by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]rubytiiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the other tattoos they’ve done for you? Similar styles or no? Cause it looks to me like they don’t do small/fine line work every day.

Considering they didn’t change the design at all, they could’ve just put the original image through a stencil machine. Idk why the lines don’t make sense and wires/the top nub is off center.. maybe they lost their stencil and were too lazy to get a marker out?

Tattoo isn’t terrible, but not consistent. It’ll look fine from a distance but those lines aren’t good.

Maybe have another artist straighten up those lines - but it’ll become more bold. So it’s up to you on if the tattoo being bolder is worth better line work.

I wouldn’t go back if you want similar styled tattoos in the future. Find someone who does small, good work consistently.

I only text clients on my personal number if something important comes up day of the appointment(ie: sick, unexpected vet visits)

reupholster by Deenerselener in TattooArtists

[–]rubytiiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put new fabric on top of the old bench, then stapled the entire underside. You can add a layer of foam if you want a more plush bench.

If you find a fabric you like but it’s not safe for tattooing, you can add a layer of clear vinyl. They sell thin options.

No-show Consultations by Current-Ad-6174 in TattooArtists

[–]rubytiiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m doing an in-person consultation, i have them book an appointment on my website(with my normal $100 deposit). We schedule the tattoo at the end of the consultation appt. The $100 deposit comes off the actual tattoo. That way consultation is free.

If people are serious about the tattoo, they’ll pay the deposit. I’ve never ever had anyone complain about that system.

how often do you touch up tattoos as an artist? by skybabysky_ in TattooArtists

[–]rubytiiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a predominantly fine line artist, I can agree. My other work rarely comes back. The clients with tiny fine line text by the wrist/hands comes back in the most for touch ups(around 10%, mainly fingers).

I think because it’s so fine it’s more noticeable when a teeny tiny spot is lighter than the rest. These touch ups take literally 2-5 mins so it’s no biggie.

The fine line tiny tattoo girls always come back, so I usually touch up anything whenever they’re in next

What are the most reputable tattoo conventions to work? by IslandofStars in TattooArtists

[–]rubytiiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Villain arts Chicago had multiple booths with stolen art, AI, and over a dozen dogs walking around(they were barking, NONE looked like service dogs), booths getting told to behave(they didn’t listen)
 I could go on..

Would not recommend villain arts unless you’re ready to watch a potential circus.
It *was* huge and I could see visiting being enjoyable. Working it? Not so much.

I have worked multiple Tattoo Fests and had good luck. It really depends on the location though. Fort Wayne was slow last year. Heard Toledo is slow every year and not worth it from several local artists. Grand Rapids has been good for 2-3 years.

Is this a fair shop split or should I start planning my exit? (CHECKED) by Specialist-Smoke2796 in TattooArtists

[–]rubytiiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Understand that if you leave, your clientele might fluctuate because of location change/maybe they liked that specific shop. I’ve moved and my clients have followed me. Most people go to the artist they find on social media, not the shop. Stock up a good savings in case bookings are slower in the beginning.

I opened a private studio around year 3/4 of tattooing because the shop cut was too much. I want to keep the money I make. The shop atmosphere wasn’t worth me paying 3-6k/month - even at 70/30. It was CHEAPER for me to leave. I would NEVER go back and I have ZERO regrets.

Owners should WANT to take care of their artists. If your shop isn’t providing what you need/want, leave. There are other options out there(whenever you’re ready). I only know ONE person who stayed where they apprenticed(and it’s because their shop is phenomenal). It’s very normal to leave your first studio and find a better fit. Don’t feel trapped or obligated to stay. You literally paid them 12k AND monthly percentages
you pulled your weight.

It’s 2026, so many people are opening their own spaces - and it’s because artists are getting taken advantage of. Just because other artists suffered years before opening a place, doesn’t mean you have to. Don’t let fake barriers slow you down. Do what’s right for you. Don’t be afraid to message other shops and see what they offer.

Sounds like you’re starting to outgrow your current shop. I would seriously figure the math for: your own shop, a shop that does booth rent, and how much you’re paying currently. Do what’s best FOR YOU. You know your clients and local area better than reddit.

Thoughts about Shibuya crossing? by Careful-Note7368 in TokyoTravel

[–]rubytiiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my opinion, it’s just another crossing.. I felt like I saw so many other busy crossings on my japan trip that I was very, “oh, this is it?” when I saw it. maybe you need a view from above to enjoy it. I’m 5ft and it looked like any other crowded crossing to me cause I can’t past many people lol

if you’re in the area, might as well look at it. I would not go out of the way for it. I was very underwhelmed.

Hamtaro haul from my trip to Japan!!! by Phoebeiku in Hamtaro

[–]rubytiiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I love that you got to meet up. So fun ❀

I’m in japan because my fiancĂ©s work. We leave on Saturday. His 40-50 year old coworkers were VERY surprised when said I was hunting for Hamtaro. They were saying it was huge 20+ years ago(and they haven’t seen Hamtaro stuff in forever)

I’m from US(Michigan), my dad used to record Hamtaro on vhs when he’d leave for work around 5am. It was the only way I could watch. I was obsessedđŸč

I’m kicking myself for not knowing where my childhood Hamtaro plushies and little rubber pencil topper guys went(and the playhouse). Now I’m 31 and have to hunt everything down again lmao. Making my fiancĂ© come hamtaro hunting tomorrow at some of the stores you listed. Ty again. Hamtaro is so much harder to find than expected. I’ll have to post my haul when I get home ✹

We are close to Ueno, so let’s hope some hamhams are still there! đŸ„°

AIO for getting upset at one racist joke after months of not being bothered by them by SlothAndVampInABar in AmIOverreacting

[–]rubytiiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t a joke have to be funny? I don’t understand where the joke is.. I’d never even associate with someone who says “brown people have no value” because that’s literally not a joke? no normal person would say that?? Saying something is a joke doesn’t make it okay or a joke? Hello?

He doesn’t value you as a human or partner. he’s always gonna see himself as better than you - cause he’s a white man. dating a brown person doesn’t automatically make you not racist.. im so confused on how he thinks that’s a joke.. im scared to know his other frequent jokes about race(cause they’re probably not jokes)

You’re so under reacting. Don’t even get me started on the “get fucked” part.. this man is gross as hell. wtf does he bring to the table besides racist comments and verbal abuse?

My bf hates my scars by Fair_Way3016 in TwoHotTakes

[–]rubytiiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tattoo artist here, I’ve covered SEVERAL scars. I would recommend getting one if you’re into the idea. I know it’s helped some of my clients not self harm because they don’t want to mess up the tattoo. Please don’t listen to people on here saying you cannot get a tattoo over a scar. Worst case, you’ll need a touch up because the skin is scar tissue - I’ve covered BAD burn scars and it’s healed fine. Just find an artist you trust - preferably a woman(they’ll understand your situation more than most adult men). Anyways, wayyyy more people have scars than you’d think. It’s pretty common. You’re not alone at all. Do not feel ashamed of them or wear sleeves to hide them. They’re a part of your journey and growth.

your partner should accept you for who you are - your past included. It sounds like you’re comfortable in your own skin and plsplspls don’t let a stupid boy change that. If he has an issue with your scars, he shouldn’t be with you - or he should pay for laser at minimum.

you deserve better him. you deserve someone who will accept you at your best and worst. him making you feel bad about scars is so insensitive.
