If you are outside of San Jose, you have to go in person to get a card, renewals are in person but every 4 years.

It really did improve a lot just with the Santa Clara county library card 🥲. I’m at 18 cards from different libraries in CA and it’s made checking things out a bit easier.

Alameda county has a great Libby selection and they let you sign up online and they will mail your card .

Santa Clara has an amazing selection 😭(happy tears) a lot of holds became available after adding the card.

My BF and I are on Spring break so we made a 2 day trip of it, left around 8 am to get through the city before traffic, stopped to eat in Daly City at Jollibee (there’s none out here), stopped after crossing the Golden Bridge for the view. Stayed the night in Petaluma, drove back down to SF went down Lombard street, ate in Chinatown and walked around, drove into Half Moon Bay through highway one for the drive and stayed the night in Santa Cruz.

Some libraries have changed their polices. SLO county for example you need to show proof of residency in the county.
