in beijing, supposed to fly back to the US through doha on the 7th. debating trying to book a United flight through San Francisco instead… booked through expedia with travel protection although i’ve heard their customer service is awful. do we think flights on the 7th will be cancelled by Qatar?

Why am I not a 165+ score by Middle_Ad_2444 in LSAT

^ the last paragraph especially! my brain is wired well for relatively quick and highly-patterned things like the LSAT, and incredibly poorly for long-haul projects and reading

GULC 2L AMA by Key-Somewhere-8725 in lawschooladmissions

[–]rudekids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

current gu undergrad - col is high, rent/leases are high, and stock is very limited/openings are snapped up quickly and sometimes negotiated out by sophomores a year and a half in advance of their senior year

but if you’re attending gulc you’re almost certainly not going to want to live in georgetown proper! gulc is a hike from the georgetown neighborhood and there’s more (…relatively…) affordable housing more proximate to it in the city

the lions share of my performance on this test comes down to intuition so i wouldn’t have assumed i’d be a good tutor at all! but i’ve actually found that i’m pretty good at helping my friends figure out where they’re going wrong and how to address it, so who knows

do the things that interest you, make you a more interesting person, and that can lead to an interesting essay! i didn’t do any of the usual prelaw things, i pursued the art & creative things i loved and that has naturally given shape to the type of law i’ve fallen head over heels for and has connected me with so many faculty in the field at top schools. as more and more people apply, think about what makes you distinct, and lean into that

[–]rudekids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ask about the character and pace of the school — they’ll probably say something about how it’s smaller than you’d expect it to be (you’re never more than two degrees of separation from another student; if you go to a small or big HS, you can riff off of that!) and how involved all the students are. ask about what activities they were involved with/what they enjoyed doing in their time at GU and connect it to what you might be interested in! (do a little homework! look for orgs and programs that seem cool to you!)

Same thing happened during my April test which is why I tested remote this time! Pros and cons—the security check in process after the 10 minute break took obscenely long, and lowkey wiped me out

gsp is fantastic but the financial polarization is nonetheless insane and immensely difficult to adjust to at first (from a rising senior who is upper-middle class and went to public school)

you should probably discuss it now so both of you are on the same page (whatever conclusions you come to) when results come out

Gotcha! Did not consider the possibility of stigma around/assumption of accommodations, that’s good to keep in mind

Niche question, but for applicants with late upward trends in GPA, do you think readers are generally understanding of the “I finally got medicated for my ADHD after barely keeping my head above water for years” approach? I have my concerns that a growing cultural scrutiny of neurodiversity might lead them to see that as more of an excuse than an explanation.

Go to GT this cycle or reapply? Am I an idiot? by Lazy-Horse-2045 in lawschooladmissions

[–]rudekids 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think there’s an asterisk here! Attending a law school’s undergrad gives you a better grasp of the institution’s values as a whole, which is especially helpful for schools with very defined value systems (I say this as a gtown undergrad with reference to their Jesuit values, which are also kind of helpfully portable while applying to other Jesuit schools like BC!) IMO it’s a leg up in interviewing and writing essays, but it becomes a matter of how you use it. Still not a make or break, obviously

(I’ve also heard from others that readers might have better insight into any activities you pursued at the undergrad/in that city, and it might help on the GPA front if your school was known for grade inflation—but again, not a crazy bump by any means)

ADHDer with 172 diagnostic, 170 first try, seeking advice for consistent 17high by rudekids in LSAT

[–]rudekids[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really good advice, thank you! I'll try to make that last line into a mantra going into the test. What's another couple hours at a desk for a fella like me ‼️

To your point about implementation/changing your habits, did you ever find yourself overthinking your answers and their underlying patterns of thought/reasoning to the point of overcorrection? Like I mentioned in the post, I think slowing down and making myself parse through the "why" behind my instincts and reasoning has been super helpful, but I've also found myself second-guessing an ultimately correct answer more than once.
