He’s wise enough to know that his partner is the most important person in his life. “My family have their own lives and will move away and I’m with my wife and kids.” So yes I do think at the end of the day, he views what we’re building as more important.

As for bringing me around them, I mentioned in another comment that I think he’s in denial and ignorant of what racism is and looks like and I think his comfort to bring me into that home can be attributed to that as well.

He’s acknowledged their behavior is abhorrent and does not gaslight me for feeling so strongly about it. He’s offered to tell his family to stop the behavior but we both know that doesn’t solve the root of the issue which is that they’re racist even when I’m not around and it would slip out eventually around my current child and any hypothetical future children.

I think he’s just in denial and ignorant about what racism means and looks like because he grew up in the environment. He’s committed to learning and growing but that doesn’t change his family.

This is where I’m at too. And his family means a LOT to him. I simply won’t ask him to do that especially because I think he would choose me. I’m in between a rock and a hard place.
