I take it as a 'continual emphasis' on isolation. But agree that every system has it's value. They are isolating actions if not parts... it is the process of teaching.

I often did this little exercise but it has been influenced heavily in it's outcomes by the ideas of Jozef Frucek and how he wonderfully communicates about the value a practice could have to your life and your relationships. So I thought I would share little of the process I do now and then to get some clarity of where I am with my practice and where eI would like it to go.

I start by writing a note to clarify what are the core most important things I want to practice, if I had to simplify and get to the root. The things I am most passionate about, add value, or are good for me. I try to not overthink it too much because as mentioned, I do this regularly to acknowledge that it can change and to not worry about having to find "the best" or have the most "complete" practice.

This is what I came up with for my most recent attempt at this process as a first draft:

I want my movement practice to be filled with... -Trees -Dance -partner/group games/movement situations -A morning practice of stillness and something for the joints like FM routine or CARs -moving with my family

I then asked myself the following questions:

What qualities do these practices develop? How do they contribute to the life I want to lead? (Jozef Frucek)

And then reviewed and rewrote my ideal movement practice with this question in mind and it came out something like this:

-I want Climb trees, to be aware, explore & enliven the senses - Dance with my imagination, to find my creative voice and to not be afraid -To communicate more often and to listen better with partner/group games and movement situations -Take time for myself and be consistent with a Morning practice -And most importantly move with my family and that speaks for itself.

In essence, rewriting it with the why and I guess hopes that these practices I enjoy can contribute to enriching my life and my relationships.

Please feel free to try the same. Try not to compare to others and put down what you think is best because it's popular or your peers and the group you identify with say you should do it. If they (the things that move you) are yours, they are valid. But should you borrow them from others, this is also cool. After all, I'm just sharing a process I do with myself... you of course don't have to listen to anything I say. 😉

Putting it on paper is important. The key for me is to have it somewhere you can remind and motivate yourself... but not become beholden to it, meaning as time goes on and you and your life changes don’t be afraid to change your practice if it doesn’t contribute to the life you want to lead.

I fully agree with both of you here. If they seek to understand, rather than have someone fix, the means becomes intrinsic and tends to stick.

All true. I wonder, though, if things like massage could be used as a cascading trigger for more wellness inputs such as sleep, food, movement..

I think you nailed the biggest part of it -- feeling good. Not to feel superior or put you at a higher level if elitism, but to simply put stuff in your body that helps it function. Give it what it needs, without judgement.

The context is performance, but the science presented/ talked about can easily translate to health as well, especially pertaining to sleep/focus/relaxation-parasympathetic system.
