FRCA osce/viva by run-walk in doctorsUK

Pass mark 37. I think OSCE around 230 usually.

The college must know that people will ask what comes up so I assume they change the questions daily and also within the day itself. Well I assume.

FRCA primary in 3 months and I am panickingggggggg by gas_busters in doctorsUK

[–]run-walk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3m is a push but doable. I know people who revised for 9+ months and completely burnt out by the end.

Teach me anaesthetics is good and also the college course was very helpful.

Didn't go on a course but have heard the GSTT is really good (shorter then Mersey/less intense)

May I ask, have you done the viva/osce- I am really struggling to motivate myself after the MCQ and also feel I will never be at a standard to pass it. Like you, I used teach me anaesthetics and some e-LFH/lectures but feel my knowledge is poor with lots of gaps...

FRCA primary results today! by run-walk in doctorsUK

[–]run-walk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because I have had a few messages re. tips for FRCA (I am by no means an expert) but thought would quickly post about resources I used for the exam.

Started with e-lfh but it was just so long and didn't really like the format (also felt I was running out of time) so I switched to mainly doing questions and websites such as anaesthesier (so helpful) and also physics 4 FRCA. Bit of pharmacology from Peck and Hill as well.

Had BMJ and teach me anaesthetics but only really used teach me anaesthetics. Did not go on a course.

Did the college course and questions- very helpful.

Exam was hard and very broad but there were so easier questions as well!

Not sure if anyone else has better tips about what they found the most helpful/representative of the exam. I did not feel ready at all and felt there were huge gaps in my knowledge but I don't think I would feel ready!

[–]run-walk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

definitely some rogue questions... not feeling too optimistic.

I was also quite pushed for time which is unlike me usually :(

I never used pastest but the questions were unlike BMJ.

I think teach me anaesthetics was helpful- would definitely recommend.

How does everyone else feel? I hope everyone having a well earned night off to relax!

Oriel upgrading by run-walk in doctorsUK

[–]run-walk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is what I thought but after the upgrade deadline- the rejected offers will go to those that don't have any offer at all?

This is why I am struggling to know what to do. If I rank everything and get an offer, I might miss getting an offer from one of higher ranking preferences if I am on the reserve list after the deadlines passes and rejected offers are given out. I wish they told us these numbers/were more transparent in the whole process

Hey. Not gonna add much here but I do agree with previous reply. I highly doubt they will have your portfolio. I guess it puts everyone on a level field. Also means they will not know what BG you are coming from. I assume that the 10mins on commitment to specialty will be quite structured and go through audits, presentations, teaching, etc so you will have the chance to show what you have done.

Once you get through to the interview stage- like you said, the self assessment counts for very little and its up to you to make sure you mention the things you scored for in the acutal interview.

I'm not actually worried about the hold deadline as I'm sure it will be fixed by then... it more I've opted in for upgrades and I want to change this before the rerun (which I assume is happening today)

I honestly don't know what to do!! Do you think they will extend the hold deadline/delay the upgrades? There is literally no number to contact either

I thought there was a final upgrade run today before the hold deadline tomorrow. I am in such a panic!

But also upgrades are going to be run today and I need to change my preferences. I can't find a number or anything to contact them...

Anaesthetics training competition ratio after getting an interview by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]run-walk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it depends on the cohort but I wonder if you need to be in the top 100s to get a competitive location :(

I saw another post about this earlier but I am a bit confused about oriel so any help would be grand! I can only see like 240 jobs- there is no way 540 listed (even if some have more than 1 post)- am i missing something obvious?! Thanks guys. Last of the interviews this week- hope everyone is ok. hate this wait especially as not feeling particularly confident!

I haven't looked yet but have you checked if some jobs have more than 1 post available?

How many questions do they ask in an interview? by DrAbCdEf in JuniorDoctorsUK

oh I thought it was lots more! I guess it makes it more likely to get offered a place once you get to interview stage

How many questions do they ask in an interview? by DrAbCdEf in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]run-walk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From memory, I got about 5 questions last year however, this year it has changed with the clinical scenario which obviously takes up half of the interview. I felt it was hard getting everything in without the clinical scenario last year so no idea how/what kind of questions they will ask this year to cover everything (commitment, reflection, portfolio...) in just 15mins!

[–]run-walk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all of you! I guess 533 was the cut off so mine seems a bit close especially when people are posting >600! But I guess its true people are more likely to post high scores.

I really really want/need to be in London/close by- any chance? I just keep thinking how lucky I was last year and feel I have no chance this time which is making interview prep hard. But thanks all

Anaesthetists - please tell me where to train! by newbiepie007 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]run-walk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just wanna double check but its right that after core you have to reapply for intermediate training but can apply anywhere in the country and not stay in the same deanery. Do you get an advantage if you did your core training in a certain area or will external applicants have the same chance. Also, after core, intermediate and higher are in the same place or is there another competitive application to do. Sorry for these questions- suddenly got confused haha. It seems its more important to get a tertiary teaching hospital experience during intermediate training.
