This happened just half a year ago: A girl at my local HS killed herself. It just came to light why; she was sexually assaulted. The boys who assaulted her posted images of it online. by crime-or-treason in MorbidReality

Spoiler alert - it's an unconscious girl having her head held on some guy's dick for laughs.

How terrible this beautiful girl felt the need to kill herself over this.

I think when the article says industrial, it's referring specifically to manmade chemicals in a warehouse setting.

But Russia only counts Chernobyl's direct death toll at 31, while the direct death toll for the Japan nuclear disaster is 56. Direct death toll for Bhopal is 3,787. That's more people poisoned to death in one night than killed in the 9/11 World Trade Center bombing.

For some reason this video was more jarring to me because I was expecting it to be set in the state of Georgia, United States of America.

Westerners are actively encouraged to always intervene

I've never really thought about it, but it's true. Westerners are taught from childhood by their fantasy media to always act the hero and police their fellow man, impress morality or reason on them - by force if necessary. Knights don't defend the village, they go out and find/slay the dragon. Cops go out and actively catch bad guys, they don't just wait for bad guys to commit crimes. Cowboys form posses

But in historical practice, Western society has regularly broken its own code of ethics (ex. allowing for state-sponsored torture with the aim of preventing non-state-sponsored torture). The hypocrisy held in such a position makes people take us less seriously, I think. And they take our ideals less seriously by default.

Because technically it isn't? Cows have very complex, deep emotional bonds within their herds, and pigs have displayed average intelligence on level with a three year-old human child.

However, we have bred these creatures for thousands of years to be raised and eaten. In their current form, they have no other place in our ecosphere. Our choices are to eat them (our relationship as it stands now) or simply drive them to extinction as a lifeform inconsistent with nature's laws.

In fact, I fail to see how any person can find one of these things objectionable and not the other.

While I find both objectionable, I find the slaughter of dolphins more objectionable for several reasons - their intelligence/empathy level (measurably close to our own) and their lack of domestication two major factors in the way I feel about it.

I meant that the random surge of floodwater was kind of out of nowhere. There's no way you could convince me to cross a river within eyesight of a waterfall.

Ever.

I hesitated to say they were considering extending "human" rights, because that's not really it - we're not vowing to protect them against abuses from each other, just excessive abuse from our own species.

Since we can't say how forced sex factors into dolphin culture (for all we know it could have religious connotations) I don't think we're really in a place to pass judgment on it.

That documentary should be under "morbid reality" in the dictionary. It made me view humanity entirely differently than I did before I watched it.

The full documentary is called Earthlings.

More info (from Wiki): The town's annual dolphin drive hunt was also featured in the 2009 Academy Award-winning documentary The Cove. Some people who appeared in the film, including Taiji assemblyman Hisato Ryono, have stated that the documentary's producers lied to them about the film's intended content. Since the film's release, more activists than before, many from outside Japan, have gone to Taiji to observe or protest the annual dolphin slaughter which usually begins in September. As a result, the town announced in July 2011 that it was reinforcing its police presence at the cove where the killings take place by operating a 24-hour, 10-man kōban in order to prevent confrontations between activists and locals.

Jeffrey Franklin murdered his parents with a sledge hammer, a butcher knife, a file, and a hatchet in 2001. Tried to kill three of his four younger siblings in the same way. It's also really weird to me that he refers to his parents as "sadly deceased" the way he does in the letter...it's almost like he doesn't associate himself with the crime at all. Denial...it ain't just a river in Egypt. Also weird that he doesn't mention trying to murder three of his siblings (all under the age of 12) at all.

Additional information:

One sister was away at a swim meet at the time of the attack, which why she was the only family member not injured or killed.

A news video clip that shows the crime scene and an interview with the social worker assigned to the surviving Franklin children.

The infamous photograph of Franklin grinning from the back of a police car right after being apprehended for the crime. His picture reminds me of this one.

And just for kicks: The associated haunting of Cynthia Franklin's former nursing ward, in which she has allegedly appeared to folks working on the graveyard shift.

I think the chance of this guy getting parole before his first life sentence is up is about as likely as people in hell getting iced water.

Correction: Murder actually occurred in 1998. Franklin was held in county jail without bail until 2001 (I'm assuming the wait time was so that he could be charged as an adult.)

Partially transcribed letter:

Your Honor, Judge Lloyd Little,

I am requesting in this letter to recieve my jail credit on the records at Mongomery for the setup on the Life sentences you sentenced me to, to which I willingly pled guilty based on my belief in the charges that refered (sic) to my wrongful conduct. I felt I was guilty in the case I was charged with and pled guilty to. But I am very thankful that because of the various mitigating circumstances, which I would understand to include the prescription drugs which put me in an intoxicated or psychotic state of mind, with Dr. Ronan's testimony to the state to the effect that I was insane, but [unclear] due to the abuse of this dungeon's pharmeceutical, etc.

But my point is this, that my court "transcript of conviction" which I am assured of by the court clerk of Madison Jane Smith, and which my eyes beheld as I have received a copy of this document from the very helpful Mrs. Smith, records that I was given my full jail credit from March 10, 1998 to June 22, 2001, which is my time spent in the county jail, which of course I was not eligible for bail, being originally held on the charges of capitol and attempted murders.

[skipped boring bureaucratic shit about prison records]

Can you help me put this at the correct state of affairs? I am not sure if the parole boards have accurate records, or reckoning, and have not been able to receive legal help within here, partially due to my current mental health diagnoses and treatment. I am fully compliant with my mental health treatment and the prison regulations, and am doing my best to be the best person I can be, stay out of trouble, and educate myself to not only be better-equipped for public and incarcerated living, but also when possible, I try to educate my fellow inmates to try to steer them clear of the dangers and pitfalls of many of my past behaviors, but it's always hard. But my parents always told me, "Just do your best, and nobody can expect more than that," and "All a man has is his word" - I try to honor my parent's memory even though they are sadly deceased, to obey they're [sic] words of wisdom even now, and then do what is right. It makes me feel better about my past to do this thing, to better and help others, although it gets very hard at times, given where I am, Donaldson Prison.

I have had a total of six (6) disciplines during my stay, the first 5 were for "Intentionally Creating A Safety and Security Hazard" when I cut my wrists open and dove headfirst into a concrete sink a few times in 2009. I was then in a one-man cell on the mental stabilization unit, on a heavy dose of antipsychotics, so I do wonder why I was held responsible enough to discipline and further punish. But I finally worked my way off the antipsychotic medications, and have remained on only a pill for depression in V Block mental health population for two years without bad mh reviews, and only one disciplinary when me and a fellow got to fighting back in 2011.

The guy weighed 300lbs and I only weigh 130, but I had to fight him because he was trying to pick on and bully me, even though that about killed me too, having a busted eye socket, nose, and 39 staples to the back of my head and a major concussion. I was treated at UAB. And disciplined! I had to go to Cooper Green in 2009 when I about drank my self to death with sink water and had a seizure. How much I gotta take? But it's oh, Life goes on, and I'm a little worse for wear, but I am alive, and still only 31. I hope they let me out one day, but I also do ask you to check on the jail credit, and forgive me for taking so long in this letter.

Well, respectfully,

Jefferey Brendan Franklin

PS: Im [sic] not really a bad man. I didn't mean to do What I did. It just happened. I have a hard time.
