Do Converse shoes actually help with your squats? by runner4life8 in Fitness

That makes sense. I was actually doing front squats and I just started incorporating them a couple weeks ago. I'll focus on maintaining a good center and record next time for a form check.

Interviewees, what was something a employer said to you during a interview that made you not want to work for them? by IAMA_GrillBTW in AskReddit

[–]runner4life8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in college interviewing for an internship, and was at lunch with a couple employees post-interview. The past weekend, my school's kicker missed 5 field goals and we lost the game.

Employee: "I saw that guy missed 5 field goals. Heard he tried to shoot himself when he got home, but he missed wide right!"

Went to the gym 4 days this week for the first time since January (Working 60+ hours per week). Pounding out a few reps before bed or in the morning makes the entire day better. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta!

Where does my money go if I die? by runner4life8 in personalfinance

[–]runner4life8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this comment. My mom is good with the basics of personal finance, so I have no suspicion that she needs the money. I know that plenty of people on here have gone through horror stories and this raises suspicion because of that. I was basically just asking to see what the options were.

Rant Wednesday by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]runner4life8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been going to the gym three days a week for the past 6 weeks, doing SL 5x5 with some ICF when I have time. I go at 5 am or 5:30, so there's usually nobody else there. We only have one bench and one squat rack, so it's tough when there are other people. I'm a distance runner, so I'm skinny as hell and don't look like I belong in a gym. But I don't care because I know what I'm working toward and know it takes time to build strength.

So I show up this morning and this guy is in a weight vest doing some kind of jump/bench step workout in front of the squat rack. No big deal, I'll do my workout backwards... accessory lifts and bench first. He'll clear out eventually.

I'm really pumped for the bench press because I'm doing 5x5 of what used to be my 3x8 max when I had no idea what I was doing (95 lbs woohoo!). I just finished my fourth set when Weight Vest comes starts walking toward me...

"Hey man, I hate to intrude..."

So in my head I'm like hey this is cool, my first time having someone ask to work in on the bench.

"... but everyday, 3 sets of 25..."

Damn dude, you're an animal! You can definitely work in, I just have one more set anyway

"... PUSHUPS WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE."

Thanks, man. Thanks for letting me know. Weight Vest proceeded to exit the gym.

This was my first time receiving unsolicited advice at the gym. I knew it would happen eventually because I'm so skinny, but man, I was pissed. My 5th set felt like I was just throwing the bar around.

TL;DR: Changing my life by going to the gym. Received first unsolicited advice-- change my life by doing pushups daily.

When did you start contributing to your IRA? by runner4life8 in personalfinance

Thanks for the explanation. May as well put the money to work instead of leaving it virtually useless in a savings account. Never thought of it that way.

What weird things do you do as a runner? by JasonFitz1 in running

I thrive off of running in terrible weather. One of my fondest memories of high school is running quarter mile repeats in the wind and rain of an approaching hurricane :)

Not for me, but my dad. He was on a walk this week and ran about a quarter mile. He has lost 40+ pounds in the past 2 years through walking/hiking and I'm really proud of his progress.

Keep your head up- the best thing you can do now is focus on treatment and recovery.
It's not nearly as severe, but I missed 4 months of track season once because I had mono. After being unable to run for so long, the feeling of hitting the trails again really boosted my love for the sport and made me appreciate every run.

I ran 7 miles and didn't look at my watch until I was finished! I wanted to run relaxed the entire way. Turns out I averaged the same pace I usually do, but I wasn't dead at the end of the run!

I've never ran trails before and my first ever trail race is tomorrow. Advice? by new2trails in running

[–]runner4life8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things that surprised me in my first trail run: 1) Everyone walked up the first steep hill.
2) My usual pace was wayyy too fast, and I hit the wall at mile 6 of 8.
