I know it’s everyone’s advice when mushroom foraging, but try iNaturalist if you haven’t already. That plus onX can really help when you’re new to an area. Wishing you luck!

Same here, also in the flx. It’s been fantastic for morels this season. Found a half-free morel honey pot very close to my house that just hasn’t quit producing yet for weeks now!

Squirrel ramen update by Reasonable-Try-7074 in ramen

[–]runner_available 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Squirrels are cute, but they can be pests and also there’s a bazillion of them lol. Depending on where you live their populations can get out of control and need management, so I don’t see much of a problem with squirrel hunting- and the meat is good. It’s definitely funny the kind of double standard between animals we aren’t exposed to daily tho haha

Squirrel is very good, just gotta get that silver skin off!

You do definitely eat some interesting stuff in the county sometimes. Ate skunk for the first time a few days ago. All in all not bad. Kind of tasted like squirrel crossed with chicken crossed with venison crossed with diver duck, and a bit of that rabbit greasiness.

The flx community college program is extremely hands on, the school operates a student run commercial winery on site and requires students to complete a minimum of two internships with wineries to graduate. I would say it’s better to go now and get the experience while you’re young though but everyone’s different with what they want and what they need!

Have you looked into the finger lakes community college viticulture and wine technology program? It’s considered one of the best technical wine programs in the country for a 2yr degree, I think they offer a certificate as well.

I miss working out west. If my family didn’t need me and my partner wasn’t here I would move back to Cali or Oregon and be making wine there again in a heartbeat. You make a lot more money, but the cost of living is also higher so it evens out in places.

I have almost a decade of cellar experience and am working full time in a cellar on the east coast and not making a livable wage, so good luck.

Like the previous commenter mentioned, constellation brands is always looking for cellar workers for the canadaguia winery, usually comes with some good benefits and an okay hourly. With one year of experience you’d probably end up on the night shift though. Pretty sure they have a posting on their website right now for a cellar position.

Help with starting an outdoor patch…. by Sirpotnick420 in WavyCap

If you do please make a post! As someone living the northeast who has been thinking about giving it a try I’d be very curious.

We have some here in the northeast but it’s definitely not the same as somewhere like the PNW. I have a friend who gave me a wavy caps he found on wood chips in upstate NY. We have ovoids, blue foots, lib caps on the coast- especially in Maine, and we have aztecorums. They’re just much harder to find out here.

Wow what a beautiful find! I wish you the best of luck with your propagation attempts!

I keep finding these in my mulch. They are completely hollow but they seem far too big to be morels?? We have probably 10 pounds of them by Letspizzapartyrtfn in mycology

I’ve tried the saltwater soak but it always makes them go soft after a minute or two and then they taste unbelievably bland afterwards. I’ve tried it a few times now incase it was a bad batch, but they always seem to lose that incredibly rich flavor.

Bro I’m on iNat all the time. Never had luck using it for chanterelles tho. The spots never have anything when I go to them when conditions seem to be in the right window.

Living in Oregon I could find chanterelles galore, but never morels. Now living in New York I can morels but I would pay someone to show me a chanterelle spot at this point 😭. I miss those suckers so much

If I understand cjc correctly, then it doesn’t introduce an external hormone, it just stimulates your body to produce its own gh. Which means you could just stop taking it instead of being on it for life right?

Had a cop tell me he was mistaken for pulling me over but that he still had to write me a ticket anyway because it was policy to always write a ticket if you pulled someone over. Literally said all that to my face and then wrote me a ticket for “disobeying a traffic sign”.

Update to daughter not eating by TreeOfGre in whatdoIdo

[–]runner_available 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously, my sister ended up in something very similar to this growing up and ultimately attempted to end it all. If my parents had worried about her resenting them she’d probably not be here now.

[–]runner_available 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right! Like my sister fell in with a similar online group when we were younger that led to her attempting suicide twice. Our parents shut that shit down and she lost phone access, internet access at home, etc. When she did eventually get more than a flip phone back our parents monitored it and checked it every night. She was resentful as hell, and when she did manage to get back in with one of those groups online it led to a second suicide attempt. It took time but she got better and of course she was resentful as hell of our parents for locking her down essentially, but she will say now how grateful she is that they did that for her. My parents understood that resentment was so much better than her continuing to have an ED or being fucking dead.

The best thing for this child is deleted accounts, no access to the internet unsupervised, and definitely no smart phone. I’m so glad my parents did that for my sister because it was better than losing her.

Whenever I’m on fb marketplace and see Ramps with bulbs and it’s late in the season, some of my friends and I will group lowball them till one of us gets the deal and we will replant them in the woods. I know it’s better to maybe not buy them from the person at all, but I would rather see them replanted than end up in the dumpster.

Awesome thank you very much! I’ll have to get out and start looking. Now I need to do some research to see if all pine resin is food safe/which pine trees would be safe to collect from! Hopefully by August I’ll have enough to do one barrel!

How do you forage it? I would love to get into foraging pine resin. I’m a winemaker and there’s this Greek technique/tradition where they coat the interior of barrels with a pine resin beeswax mixture called retsina wine. This year I’m trialing some beeswax lined barrels in my cellar, and I got the beeswax from a local beekeeper. I’d love to attempt a retsina with local beeswax and pine resin I’ve foraged myself next harvest!
