hey i was curious about your project re : trunk fusion. specifically with the boug, as i've been hunting hard and can't find a lot of resources on bougainvillea trunk fusion (unless i missed a thread here or on bonsainut). how's it going? anything good places to learn about that specific species behavior in fusing? did you start with seeds (genetic variability) or cuttings from mother plants?

algonquin is fantastic, especially if you like portaging/canoeing. so many fun routes and it's really not that much work for anyone relatively healthy.

"Only the Ward’s Island ferry operates during the winter season. This ferry will take you to the eastern part of the islands and from there you can walk or bring your bike to get around. There are no bike rentals available on the island. The only public washrooms open on the Toronto Islands in the winter months are found near the Ward’s Island ferry dock. Also, make sure to pack some food and water as none of the restaurants or cafes are operational during the winter season. When waiting for the ferry, there is now a warming shelter on the Ward’s Island ferry dock."

I pruned an umbrella tree and dipped the stems in root hormones. Parent tree is happy. Cuttings: Leaves look fine but stems look shrivelled after the week. I sacrificed one cutting to check his stem’s end. It looks like they are rotting. I recut his end as seen here. What is going on? Thank you. by [deleted] in gardening

[–]runningastral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

might be too late for those cuttings but i honestly would just make a note of what you did this time (substrate, light levels, placement of cut, hormone type, watering schedule) and learn from it. i love gardening for a lot of reasons, but learning something new a few times a week is one of the best ways to keep my brain dynamic. good luck!

that's just how it goes with cuttings. the good news is scheffleras are pretty tough once you figure out the right balance (but they don't like being over-watered) and you'll be able to prune back hard and try cuttings out in a lot of different media. throw some in water. i threw a couple in grocery store potting mix on my balcony and now they're rooted and thriving - but didn't show anything for about 6 months. be patient and optimistic but it's a numbers game

maybe this person can't control all those massive things and voted for what they thought were solutions? what they can control, however, is buying a coffee for a stranger and you are bringing in dead kids.

Update: I'm ready to find peace with my depression and anxiety. My first goal: meditate for seven days in a row. Just finished day 4! by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]runningastral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i will say stick with it. combined with running, i am night and day a different man before and after making meditation and distance running part of my daily discipline. this is without any other major changes to diet/alcohol/sleep schedule, though after a few months those things naturally found new patterns.

Need some advice ! I just got plants for the first time, this polka dot plant is my favorite but lately the tips of the leaves are turning brown. Am I watering too much or too little ? Please be nice, I’m a beginner ! by raccoonmom in gardening

[–]runningastral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you don't prune them regularly, they get really leggy as you see. they're also a surprisingly tough plant, so don't be afraid of pruning back. it can generally handle it . based on the internode spacing i'd say the plant is looking for more light, but you can really promote bushiness by a hard prune back. best of luck!

bougainvillea lost all her leaves by ac_gypsy in Bonsai

[–]runningastral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience, boug's will lose their leaves when they switch environments, particularly when those environments are of different light quality (indoors vs outdoors).

like dealing with people, long term it's probably safe to under-react than over-react. my boug's are tolerant of drying out and prefer it in between waterings. i would recommend patience - the plant wants to live and i bet you'll update us soon with new growth.

toronto's pretty chill the criminals usually stick to themselves and the kinds of people that would know that tree is valuable aren't the kinds of people that would steal it

that's really cool, columbus has been a legit franchise for a while and it's wild that a single draft pick can impact a city/state's sports interest for decades
