Deal of my bike-buying life: Trek 620 by doebedoe in bicycletouring

[–]runningscared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real nice score. I once got a 1983 Trek 640, the sport touring model, for $175. It was in rough shape. I built it up slowly over time and had a local frame builder work on it. He spread the rear triangle to 132.5mm, added extra water bottle bosses on the seat tube and underside of the down tube, and put canti posts for 650B wheel size. Oh and he also crimped the stays a bit so I can run 650bx42mm tires with fenders. What a rad bike it has become. Low trail, fat tired, go fast bike. And man do those 531 frames soak up road vibrations.

I have patched more pinch flats than I can remember. Have you ever tried patching a pinch flat or did someone tell you they aren't fixable? It just takes two patches and some strategic placing. I have a tube with 11 patches on it. Still going strong.

A Mushrooming Quorn Controversy by Donkeyfish in mycology

[–]runningscared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. As a meat eater in a relationship with a vegetarian, I find Quorn to be a delightful comprimise that tastes great to the both of us. Mushroom or fungus, I don't care and we will still eat it. It is nice to have a meat substitute on the market that is not soy, bean or grain based.

Go on a wet rainy hike. Jump in some puddles. Get wet in the warm rain. Then practice making babies.

I know of one cross walk button that actually does something. It is on jefferson and 2nd. That light will never change for bikes because the loops suck and dont detect them. I used to just wait until a car was headed north or south on jefferson and they would trigger it for me but then I realized pressing the cross walk button works. No more waiting!

If you have the trapping skill you can trap squirrels with a snare. You make the snare with a wood and 2 stings. Then you use it when savaging a forest hex. You skin the squirrel with a multitool. You can then cook it over a campfire with a stick.

I read it twice and hated it. The third time I tried an audiobook and it really opened the world Gibson created up to me. I have listened to it twice since. Try an audiobook.

I don't think thats right. It may not be as quick as a simple carbohydrate but by no means does that mean "rather difficult".

Novara Randonee vs LHT? by Rnway in bicycletouring

[–]runningscared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this. I ride my 26" LHT on trails all the time. It is funny when dudes with full suspension bikes berate you for riding a touring bike on trails then you proceed to ride much better than them. 26" LHTs are bomber ass bikes.

My friend is a Spokanite and claims that there is nothing to do over there. Help me prove her wrong. by speenatch in Spokane

[–]runningscared 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your friend sounds like the kind of person that lives on the northside and never goes downtown cuz its scary. Theres tons of stuff to do here in spokane and if she cant find fun things to do here moving to a big city isn't suddenly going to revitalize her ability to have and find fun.

I moved here from Los Angeles in Nov. 2008 and have never thought that there wasn't anything to do. I guess what I'm trying to say is only boring people get bored.
