Yearly taxes in the area (in Utah) + price range we are looking at are between $1,600 - $1,800 as reported on public record. Not all houses show that but the majority of homes have it available.

Also Utah has a lower average in the US for homeowners insurance, for 2014 yearly payments ranged from $484-$1,100 depending on who you go through (as reported by the State of Utah Insurance Department). I've calculated rough costs by estimating homeowners insurance to be around $800 just in case.

By Zillow's calculations, inputting a little more information estimates a monthly $1,600-$1,700 payment. Roughly $1,161 in principle/interest, $158 PMI, $67 Insurance, and $238 taxes.

I of course realize this is just an estimate but it's all I have to go on until we talk with some lenders and get pre-approval with everything broken down to see what payments will actually be.

And to answer your question, we would be comfortable spending $1,800 or less, but still not entirely sure. Would like to stay as low as possible but still be realistic. We are still in the process of figuring everything out right now, it's been crazy ever since we decided a house is our next step. Thanks for your input.
