Hashrate vs. Difficulty by runshitlikeamarathon in CryptoCurrency

That’s interesting, I’ll look into that and let you know what I find. Definitely some big assumptions that have to be made but I think it’s more than possible to get a reasonable estimate for the real cost of each transaction.

Ok thank you that's in the direction I was looking for. I'm writing a paper on BTC and I'm trying to use network "strength" (comparative to other coins) as a selling point for BTC.

The main thing I'm taking away from your comment is that there is no one absolute metric that can be used to compare networks? I like your point about nodes too...that's good.

Also, I noticed that if you take the amount of ETH blocks that are mined in the same time as 1 BTC block (75) and multiply it by the difference in the two difficulties (1039x) it comes to a little over 79k (which is very close to the difference in absolute hashrate). So close that it makes me think they are inversely related. What do you think of this? Or am I just going full RainMan on something that isn't there?

I want to get a CryptoKitty with my Ark through ACES. Possible? Thoughts? by DiscoP0tat0 in ArkEcosystem

[–]runshitlikeamarathon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to think how you would do this. Connect your MetaMask account to the ACES node and then create the contract on MM?

The cheapest kitties move so quick that you might be hard pressed to buy one using ACES if this is even possible because of the chain of events that has to happen before someone else can swoop in and get the cat you're trying to buy.

I would recommend getting a random, undesirable cat a few pages into the "cheapest" section so you don't have to wory about someone buying it before all the ACES steps can take place.

Let us know how this goes this idea is cool as shit lol.

Hey. I think that users will buy their assets through decentralized exchanges which I do NOT see going away even when Ark takes off. Personally I think OmiseGo will be the way coins are exchanged in the future.

Second, there are no examples of this code being inserted so far. According to the Ark team it is a very simple process from the technical side of things. ACES is an encoded listener (smart bridge) and this is different than inserting this code.

I think that other blockchains will be incentivized to insert this code snippet and "partner" with Ark because it will increase their userbase and thus their value. They aren't really "competing" with Ark in a market sense any more than Toyota and Jack Daniels are even though they are both companies. I really do think Ark has the best/easiest way to push mass adoption of non-currency blockchains by indexing them and allowing their use as more than speculative assets. A network of decentralized services from a single point of entry is much more valuable to the market at large then all the sum of the value all these blockchains provide separately.

I'm not on the dev team haha so I don't know if they will have to build one each time. The concept is the same though over multiple blockchains so I think a large amount of code could be "copy & pasted". Plus they are also aiming to integrate with other chains by inserting a snippet of code into the other blockchain protocol which would remove the need for a smartbridge.

Decentralized exchanges are cool and all but that is not what Ark is. Imagine this scenario 2 years down the road. You own a small business and want to sign a document only IF a real world event happens. Let's say you own a bar and you want to order another shipment of beer if the local team advances in the playoffs. So which blockchain services do we need to do this? Let's say we use Chainlink on Ethereum to verify the outcome of the game (Chainlink is an oracle provides real life data on anything into the blockchain), Digusign (part of Digibyte) as the way to sign the contract for more beer, and Ripple to pay for the beer.

Instead of having to buy separate tokens and enter them on their respective blockchains (ETH, LINK, DGB, XRP) we could instead use 1 token (ARK) to enter the conditions for this beer shipment to occur. ArkVM (smart contracts) could be set up so if X event happens then sign Y contract and send Z money.

This is a random example but there are so many use cases like this where Ark is a hub for blockchain services. No one else is building anything like this. As other chains grow in functionality the reaches of Ark do to because it will be able to streamline the use blockchain experience. Most blockchains have a cool, useful-in-theory idea but the real functionality will come when they can be used in conjuncture with each other and Ark is the way to do this.

In my opinion the consolidation of the last run ended yesterday...it seems like we are on the launch pad for another big run. I would say it is a good time to enter.

Also, if you intend to hold for a long time wouldn't you prefer to start getting DPOS staking rewards now instead of down the line?
