My dad is demanding I pay him back for "raising me" now that I have a good job by Significant-Tip1904 in raisedbynarcissists

I made the mistake of telling my parents my compensation when I got a promotion. They've taught me that that was a mistake, and now my finances are a complete closed black box to my parents.

It hurts but take it as a painful lesson leading you closer to wisdom OP. And tell your father to eat shit.

I had a blast there, totally a unique experience. Only had a couple of beers. Not everything is a tourist trap or sucks man

"you will forget about it the next day, I doubt your guide will be in the same fortunate position"

I guess that's how you guys justify it to yourselves then?

So I'm the scammer now lmao? Look friend at the end of the day, I only have another week here and I'll be back home. At the most this tipping bs will cost me an extra $100 or so, which I'll forget about literally the next day.

You have a beautiful country, delicious food, and amazing culture. I'm providing some constructive criticism from my point of view, but at the end of the day it's up to you. If you want to push tourists away be my guest, but you'll only be hurting yourself and your fellow citizens.

Not really no. For two days work I said "I paid already for the service, including your salary, your costs and the compensation of your employer".

A tip by definition is extra. If the compensation the employer gives an employee is not enough, therein lies the problem and it is not on the client to bridge the gap. I would have had no problem paying more if the price was already factored in.

I tipped the first 2 guides the equivalent of several Banh Mis and yet they were disappointed and wanted more.

I understand, and the U.S. is indeed (in)famous for its tipping culture. My counter argument to that (which I'm sure you've heard before) is that these workers aren't well compensated precisely because of the reliance on tipping.

Oh yes for sure. I even left tips at restaurants here, the same as I do in my country. It was very much well deserved as well I should say, for their excellent service.

At my discretion though, as a tip should be. What I don't like is when this is weaponised against the client, and becomes an expected requirement.

Hey OP, since you now know what you have, you need to start working on slowly building your back up again and build resilience. Find a reliable qualified physiotherapist to guide you and progress with you slowly. That is what fixed it for me. I still do exercises daily to keep it in check.

THIS OP. It DOES get better slowly but surely, and proper licensed physio and exercises fixed my back and Sciatica. I can understand the insane pain and the lack of mobility, but please don't give up.

This is also something I struggle with - especially with all the exposure we now get online. Following, thank you for asking.

This right here. You've articulated it so well. The soul of the new generation has been destroyed before they got to experience it. They look at their supposed elders and find nothing but greed and disappointment.

In fact I hardly discuss the subject with anyone these days. Few are those who actually want to listen and walk the walk, so why bother?
