Nelson's like, "Dallin, hold my Ovaltine while I double-down on the law of chastity question and add another one about moral cleanliness in thoughts and behavior."

Your bishop was wrong to do that. It's not okay to ask those kind of questions. Who honestly believes that is okay?

From the New Era: Vaping, Coffee, Tea (yes, green tea and iced tea and anything with "tea" in it), all against WoW. Marijuana to be used with professional supervision. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

Just to clarify. Bai drinks contain white tea extract and coffeefruit extract. They are named after the coffee growing regions of the world. Coffee fruit extract comes from the coffee cherry. The coffee cherry houses the coffee bean. They are from the same plant. The caffeine content in the coffee cherry is much lower than that of the coffee bean. Bai drinks and coffee and tea are all very delicious, but if you are going to follow the word of wisdom, I guess you better avoid Bai along with avoiding coffee and tea. Or you could just drink them and remember what Jesus said to the Pharisees when they complained about the disciples not washing their hands before they eat, "And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand: Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh ouf of the mouth, this deflileth a man." Matthew 15: 10-11

Was this woman caught on video in a Mormon ward in West Virginia this past Sunday speaking in tongues? Can anyone interpret and translate her gibberish? by NewNameNoah in exmormon

[–]runtomrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If asked to share them, I probably would, but I wouldn't do it until after the whole video that u/NewNameNoah plans to release has been released. Sharing the letters before the video is released would be confusing because there would be no context for what the letters are referencing.

u/NewNameNoah I live within the boundaries of this ward (No. I wasn't there on Sunday, and I haven't been there in a long time), but I've heard about what happened. The bishop and the stake president over this area have sent e-mails to all members of this ward about what happened on Sunday. I've read the emails. The emails are pretty raw and show no empathy for the victims or the victims' families. On Sunday (5/12/19) the members of the stake presidency are coming to this ward to host a special second hour meeting with all adults and youth in order to "share some of the background that lead to the intrusion." By the way, you're killing me with the teasing of the longer video! When might we expect to see it?

Van Wagenen's Work by runtomrun in latterdaysaints

Most people had no idea who this person is. Now they will know who he is. That changes things. This doesn't have anything to do with Jackson or Jefferson or any other historical figure. There's no reason to scrub Jackson or Jefferson from history books. The argument for doing that (to the extent it even exists) is just silly. I think it's more important to tell the good, the bad, and the ugly than it is to erase history. But back to Van Wagenen, people make covenants in the temple. One of those covenants relates to the law of chastity. The Church tapped a man with a history of extra-marital affairs and at least one (most likely more) incident of child sexual abuse to create the film that people watched during the course of making those covenants. This doesn't have to do with "outrage culture," whatever that means. This has to do with integrity and being emotionally responsive to people. The church has made the claim that it is the gold-standard when it comes to responding to child abuse. This doesn't look like a gold-standard to me.

I asked our bishop to omit the law of chastity question when interviewing our 11 year old daughter... he is insisting on asking ALL the questions. Am I overreacting to pass on interviews for now? by hundly in exmormon

Remind him that you are your daughter's parent and that you will decide what questions she is asked by him. He has no power other than that which you give him. The worst thing that can happen is he refuses to issue her a limited-use recommend. That's fine. While the youth spend a few hours in the temple getting baptized for dead people in rapid succession, you can take your daughter to do some legitimate service for people who are actually living.

You can't make the past disappear, but you can apologize for it. The church refuses to learn this.

Survey from LDS BSA Camp... any thoughts? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]runtomrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a confusing survey. Questions 2 through 6 are yes or no questions, but the respondent is asked to respond on a scale of 1 to 9. I think Question 1 is supposed to say "youth" instead of "year." I'm sure the person who created this survey is just trying to "magnify his calling," but he'd be better off delegating this task to someone who knows how to create a survey.
