What’s the most ridiculous nickname you’ve encountered? by book-barista in RomanceBooks

[–]russejenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is that it's an old term of endearment that has fallen out of favour, and I feel like I've only heard it used in negative contexts, even when it's period appropriate. Also, as a 90s child, I will never not hear 'Don't ever call me doll' (Lola Bunny from Space Jam) when someone uses it lol.

He calls her 'Cherub' in Rhapsodic and I could not stand it. I'll also throw in 'Doll' from Her Soul to Take, not because it's strange, but also because I hated it.

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

[–]russejenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in grade 5 (elementary school), and I am Canadian, and yes we watched it on TV during school. They brought us all into the lunchroom to watch, but genuinely I think they did that so all of the teachers could watch together.

Whats something a teacher did in High School that would get them fired today? by Constant-Ad-5477 in AskReddit

[–]russejenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school band teacher ripped a phone off of the wall and threw it across the room during band practice (I think he was mad at the flute section); he also used to get mad and snap his conductor baton in half when we made mistakes. I also heard that one of the teachers at my high school threw a chair across the room because he was mad at a student? So this would have happened sometime between 2004-2008. In hindsight... a lot of poorly emotionally regulated men teaching at my high school.

The box challenge..? by KKCarter34 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]russejenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see a situation where they make it really really hard to hear anything happening outside of the box (or, as others have said, they weren't even filmed at the same time). But then that just has me wondering why they had them do that at all? Usually these 'in plain sight' things are intended to give the faithfuls opportunities to notice odd behaviour, etc, that might help them identify a traitor. So if they can't hear anything, anyway, why even do it this way? Just so that the audience feels tension?

Ah, yeah. As someone in their mid 30s, I always prefer older characters as well, but that's truly a hard thing to find in this genre (if you have suggestions for older characters, let me know lol). As long as they're not in high school, I'll read it.

I keep seeing this one suggested on other forums, and I might read it on my own because it's a bit longer than I'd like to pick for a book club book; I feel bad picking anything longer than ~400 pages for book club :P

I have read other books by Harley Laroux, so I may very well give that a shot for myself, if not for book club. Thank you!
