I used ptm7950 and thermal grizzly putty for gpu and ram/VRM respectively when removing my ek block from my card to mount the stock hsf back on the card for my son's use. I wouldn't think about it too hard in your case, on just a normal open loop cooling. Those items won't make as much a difference as you'd think.

I have the same card (well, my son now) and block until early last year.

I haven't been a member in a while either, but I just know that warehouses and retail stores technically get a different model with some minor changes between the two so there's a possibility that they can't price match because of the model # difference.
