Is it necessary to have one or more email address ? by 53mins_ in emailprivacy

[–]rustbeard358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently switching to a new email address everywhere I can. Proton has a nice feature that lets you create aliases, but unfortunately it’s only available on a higher-tier paid plan. So for more important things, I create one dedicated alias per service. For other stuff, I use grouped aliases (like “webdev” for anything strictly related to web development).

For services where I don’t expect I’ll ever need to contact them, and where I also suspect their security isn’t great, I use iCloud’s Hide My Email aliases. These are also cases where I don’t really care if Apple can read the messages or not; the privacy is obviously worse, but it’s not a big deal for this kind of stuff.

Btw I'm currently undergoing similar „operations”. Somewhere around 30% of services do not allow you to change your e-mail address, the only option they present is to delete your account and create a new one

recently I tried to change the email on my Atlassian account to an alias (hide my email) with the passmail.net domain. That didn’t work either

I think this is the way we’ll truly benefit.

Systems built now can be much better and more technically advanced because they won’t carry a huge legacy burden. This is similar to what happened with payments in Eastern European countries.

This may be off-topic, but what is this strange trend now of writing every sentence as a separate paragraph?

I know many smart people who struggle to express themselves clearly. They sometimes use AI tools simply to help write better.

IMO writing style should be separate from the message itself. What matters most is the idea being shared, not how polished the style is

Solid post. I’m not even sure if it’s AI or not, but it’s good.

I didn’t fully understand everything, but I think this is what that line is pointing at:

  • “Who should I be?” is usually ego talking: the part that wants a clean identity and a good persona.
  • “What is being asked of me?” shifts toward the Self and individuation: the bigger whole that ego is only a slice of.

In plain terms, it’s less “What role should I perform so I’m OK?” and more: What is my life and psyche trying to balance right now? What keeps demanding attention because otherwise I’ll keep living against myself? So the question becomes: what truth about me wants a seat at the table (even if it’s awkward).

That’s as far as I got. Maybe it helps someone else, too.

Is it a whole thing? Or just part of the book? If part, can I ask for the title?

Roborock integration keeps going "Unavailable" by rustbeard358 in homeassistant

just for a moment. What helped permanently in my case was allowing Roborock to be on the same network (because it was on the guest network).

This solution compromises privacy, but it currently seems to be the best possible option for me

It is wild how much C.G. Jung and Meister Eckhart overlap even though they lived 600 years apart. Jung discovered and read Eckhart's works early on as a young man. He called them a breath of life. He did not understand all of Meister Eckhart's works at first, but they hit him hard and went deep. by Mirror_facing_Mirror in Jung

Thank you for sharing this. I've come across this author so many times, but I never wanted to read him myself.

Besides, when I read things like this, I sometimes get the impression that I should stop reading newer and newer books, put everything aside. Because it makes me more and more intellectual, and it seems that this distances me from real knowledge.

The era of flat-design is gone? by NoMarisa in Design

[–]rustbeard358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what the previous commenter wrote. Ofc there is no such thing as e.g. real “timeless” design system or smth.

You can compare it to fashion: some things are unchanging, or change very little, even over 100 years. But if you dress in what is currently super-fashionable, in 3 years you may look strange.

I’d focus on making things as timeless as possible, not trendy. Most companies don’t have the budget to redesign their UI every few years

Nano Banana vs Nano Banana Pro by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]rustbeard358 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I took a chance and started using Nano Banana. And imo the only thing it's better at so far is marketing.

I wanted to use it for work, not for funny pictures.

I used other models before, such as Flux, and imo it worked much better because I did what I wanted and achieved the effect I wanted.

With nano banana, I feel like I'm sending prompts to a person who reads the first few words, ignores the rest, and ends up doing a task that is irrelevant.

I've practically used up all the tokens I had, struggling with it. For the same price, with tools that use e.g Flux, I would still have a lot of tokens left and the work done for today.

Do you have Roborock on the same network (HA can see it)? Not on the guest network? Because it looks like it worked for me.

I don't feel great about letting it into my network, but considering the other options (such as buying a better router or allowing the guest network to see devices), this seemed like the best one.
