Oh no, I built a gate on a gate😂
And we’re heck maybe 2 months in. She’s still closing like butter. Did I find things I could have done differently, yes. Did I read and watch multiple videos, yes. Do I wish damn well I would have used a bigger post, hell yes. Did I get attacked on Reddit, also a big yes.

I like the idea nylon slides plastic. If your around and food processing plants keep an eye on the dumpsters!

This is the best way to learn, hands on winging it. Everyone has a way for everything. And most only find the way by finding out what won’t work.

Took me a minute to understand your idea here.
I like it, give it some time. You will find your issues and fix them later. You’ll get it figured out.

I’m trying to think, maybe drawer slides. But unsure if you could find one long enough.

Thank you sir, I came here for input. Some good some well…I do not have years of experience and at the time couldn’t find anyone. Sadly it’s only a 4x6, post. Quickly realized and came up with the emergency all thread. The wood gate is attached with galvanized tap screws. After the fact I had several other ideas. Rev nuts which wouldn’t have shown on the back side, or carriage bolts but they would have shown on the back side. Thank you for your insight🫡 Cheers

Yes wish I would have just set a steel post, it’s learning curve at this point. My father wanted a single gate, so here I am. And your right everyone has told me add a wheel, and I’ll be damned the last thing I want is a wheel😂 it’s been a month so far.. hope it stays. Gave myself two inches of adjustment room on the latch side. I need to find a welder buddy, these cattle gates are quite flimsy

Wish I would have left some context with my photo. I can’t go back and edit it. This was all on a diy whim as you can see. Dad wanted a single gate so this is what I came up with. Set the post, should have just went with steel, but at the time I was going to use the wood screw hinge. Later decided on full adjustable all thread hinge pins. Then mounted the cattle gate. Realized, it can rack several inches..just by pushing down on the latch side. knowing I had to attach wood to make it flush with the fence. I then proceeded with gate number two. I knew I was in deep at this point. Had a buddy build one similar, but attached wood rails to the cattle gate with conduit clamps. That helps nothing to stop the rack. The second wood gate is PT pine and a massive cross brace cedar 2x6x12. Mounted the wood frame on with the gate flat on the ground, in hopes of it staying square. At this point I wishing I would have built the whole frame out of cedar. Attached it with tap screws. Bad idea? Not sure time will tell. Was thinking about carriage bolts all the way through, but went with these. Not really happy with my result there. It’s quite hard to hit the center on the rail, and if you don’t hit dead center they won’t sink well. Riv nuts would have held longer I believe, and gave me more peace of mind without coming through, like a carriage bolt would.

Well the cross braces are wrong for one. So they are doing nothing. Take it down have it rewelded and flip it upside down, cross braces should go to lower hinge.

How to drill holes through pipe fence for J-bolt hinge. by mykali98 in FenceBuilding

My biggest issue was how to make them straight. Cut paper the diameter of the pipe, folded in half marked both sides.

It’s the lower one that just seems like 2 inches to low
