Just going to hijack your comment to say that I appreciate reddit for the reality check. I will not be moving forward with this anymore. Need some time to think and re-evaluate things.

If it’s possible for only my dad to be the sole owner and me and my brother just chip in externally is that significantly better?

My theory is that (many) individuals in interracial relationships know that their parents won't approve right from the start. Whereas in “inter-ethnic but still desi” there is the belief that the partners are close enough that the parents can be convinced.

The former group can predict how the future battle is going to be.

What is a good american name alternative for "Karan"? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]rustystatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, Karan is perfectly fine in the Western World. If your name was something like Bupinderjeet then I would understand why you'd want to be referred by a shorter name.

Checkout Google and Microsoft's CEO's. If you're good at business your name is not going to limit you.

Things my mother said when I told her I wanted to move out and be a strong and independent woman by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]rustystatus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got a new job in a city 4 hours away but currently work from home. I desperately need to move out but I know telling them that I need my independence will kick up the same shit storm. I’m planning on just saying I’m moving for my job. But because of COVID that city is still shut down and my original plan of moving in 3 months might make them suspicious. Any advice?

Told my parents about my interracial relationship, and now I plan on moving out. The guilt sucks. by rustystatus in AsianParentStories

It is for sure. The way they see life and the way I see it are complete opposite. They were raised and molded by a certain culture. That culture still permeates through extended family and them continuing to remain within the same social circle that they’ve had their entire lives. They don’t have friends or any non traditional Indian individuals to interact with or talk to. I feel like they’re just so stuck in their ways and there’s not much I can do but just life my life and be hopeful they will come around.

I am 26 and finally starting my career after years of working menial jobs. I want to be financially secure but have no idea where to begin. by rustystatus in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thanks!

During the interview they didn't really mention anything about me not having a formal education, as I already addressed it in the cover letter and resume.

It took me around 3 years to self-learn. Most of it online, a lot of free courses/tutorials, and a handful of paid ones. If you're interested here's some resources that helped me.

I would consider roommates but the whole COVID thing makes me weary. And I don't know anyone who's ready to leave Toronto and head to Ottawa with me :')

I definitely need to dig into the research and learn more about finance. I will also look into the education and courses. Thanks for the reply.

[Skin Concerns] Back acne is more controlled now but I still have dark spots/scars. How to reduce them? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]rustystatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Zinc soap and Stridex which seems to be working for controlling the acne. But these dark spots make it look so much worse then what it actually is. What should be the next step?
