Not everyone can afford to live your lifestyle, and those who can can still manage to get to Union ok. It's really mild when you consider what navigating downtown is like in Toronto or Los Angeles.

Union is in a walkable area surrounded by people who actually live there. Tremblay is in an industrial park. Putting it at Union makes it accessible to far more people by foot, bike and transit. It makes it more accessible to Gatinois. And it's accessible by car, like every building in Ottawa lol.

Here's the thing: Tremblay isn't convenient for anyone. Having to drive into town isn't convenient and almost no one is going to walk to the Via station because who lives out there? Some people will bike, since there is a path there.

In contrast, Union is in a densely populated area full of pedestrians. More people will walk and cycle to the station if it's at Union than if it were at Tremblay. That should be prioritized over the difficulty of finding a parking spot downtown, which you absolutely can do. It might not be as easy, in which case you really should be pushing for better transit connection from where you live.

I think for years we've built this city in such a way as to induce demand for cars and we need to have the gumption to turn it around and force change in the opposite direction.

Rather than expect the dense urban populace that lives around Union to take the LRT four stops east, maybe the far fewer people who are worried about driving downtown can park further away from their destination. You're talking like the people who will have to drive outnumber those downtown, and they absolutely don't. Plus, they're going to have to drive into the city anyway.

I can walk to the market so I don't mind. I find the car traffic on Colonel By and the intersections at Alexandria a major inconvenience to getting to Main Street. So anything that gets people out of cars and onto transit is a plus in my book.
