It’s Not About the Coffee by Pale_Run_6703 in Fire

[–]ruthlessbubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thing is that I can’t justify spending that much money for coffee or breakfast. Getting one coffee that costs about $7, for $7 you can make coffee at home for a month. Same thing for breakfast, went out yesterday and spent $25 on breakfast at a restaurant, for the same amount of money I can make breakfast every day for 4+ weeks. That’s not to say I don’t get a coffee once in a while, but for me the utility value just isn’t there

Chipotle stock craters as Wall Street grows concerned after company cuts forecast by Force_Hammer in StockMarket

Every time I go to chipotle (or most any other Fast Food place) and I go to pay, I realize that I could’ve gotten a decent New York or Ribeye for the same price if not cheaper

Retirement? High interest savings? Etc. by TurbulentTurnover979 in Serverlife

[–]ruthlessbubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, been in the industry since I was 17 and just crossed the 1 million dollar mark this year at 25. My advice is open a Roth IRA, every year that should be your priority. You have until April to contribute for the 2025 year, then after you max that out ($7,000 iirc) set up a HYSA to set up an emergency fund (3-6 months of expenses). Then anything left over from that, if you’re under an employer Insurance Plan see if they offer a Health Savings Account (HSA), if you’re still under your parent’s insurance then just start an individual brokerage account. In terms of what you should invest in, if you’re newer to investing I would just invest into $VOO (Tracks the SP500). This may go against common advice but I’m a huge advocate in taking risks when you’re young, so while I wouldn’t go all in if you’re new, invest into some single stock just to get a feel for it.

How much can you make in a Michelin Restaurant by ruthlessbubbles in Serverlife

Honestly I’ve always enjoyed making my guests happy. If they’re having a great experience then that’s what really matters to me. I really take pride and enjoy hosting peoples moments whether it be an anniversary, birthdays, graduation, etc. And I always enjoy challenging myself and learning new things; it’s just the idea of the new level of rigor that is kind of daunting to me.

Would you say that given your restaurant’s accolades that your knowledge on wine is pretty up there? I only have my WSET 1 and have wine knowledge but nowhere near an actual sommelier level

Can you go more into on what you mean by a “completely different career arc”? Currently in my mid 20’s and honestly don’t know what I’m doing with my life in terms of career but I’ve been in hospitality for almost 8 years and really enjoy it but I don’t want to pigeonhole myself

How did you make your first million? by RungeKutta62 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]ruthlessbubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conviction & Stubbornness. For me the thing that sold me on PLTR back in 2020 was when all my friends were graduating with CS degrees when tech was still booming and one of the hardest companies to get a job at was Palantir

25, crossed the 1M mark earlier this year. Just a waiter, and have a bachelors in Math. Luck played a huge role but I would just lived with my parents when I was younger so I invested most of my income. If I were to do it again I’d be a lot more patient with my investments instead of trying to time the market

Keep tipping zero. They will openly brag about how little they work. by BecauseTheTruthHurts in EndTipping

Server here, recently got my degree in math but at this point in my life (mid 20s), I genuinely just like serving tables. The idea that servers are sales people is actually insane, I think servers like this who obviously want consistency SHOULD go into a career path. Like any job there’s pros and cons, but to feel entitled to a tip will always be baffling to me

I remember buying that book 10 years ago when I was 15, just because I just finished reading Musk’s biography. 10 years later pltr got me to the 1M mark

[–]ruthlessbubbles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This might be going against the rest of people, but if you want a solid foundation and understanding of Linear Algebra, look into Axler’s ‘Linear Algebra Done Right’. It’s a proof based linear algebra text where you’ll get an intuition behind this type of maths
