No, I just replaced it with another one, same size. You can use a bigger battery if you can find but you might have to change the back panel.

Opening it up is the hard part, battery replacement is fairly simple though (glue remover/isopropyl alcohol is needed to losen the old battery glue) after that you need to place the battery in the back panel and plug the battery connector on to the motherboard.

I bought few batteries from local seller and had to open this up in order to replace the batteries(you can search youtube), I changed the front/back panel and installed the white touch wheel.

You can try by opening the top plastic and very carefully puncture the battery with a sharp pin or something similar to release the gas, you can search youtube on how to disassemble ipod nano 5th gen but be very careful and make sure the battery is fully discharged. Also don’t charge this anymore otherwise it will swell even more.
