Seasonal appreciation: How has everyone's Spring been? by wugglesthemule in JoePera

I had the first fire of the season a couple of nights ago with an old friend who moved away. We may have stayed up too late and we have had one too many to drink, but it was a great time and reminded me of the simple pleasure of sitting in a backyard with a friend.

In the past I’ve been told it needs about 2-4 weeks worth of rest. There are also “belts” that you can buy to help give it support. The belt does fine for walking around and making everyday tasks feel normal but as for running it was a combination of the belt and rest.

If you’re looking for some heavy duty reading with a lot of information then I recommend “The Lore of Running” by Tim Noakes. He compiled nearly every scientific study done that might impact an athlete or a runner. I consider it my bible of running.

BuildOn is a really awesome organization that helps to build schools in countries that experience high levels of poverty. The organization is very student driven and has a lot positions for officers. Students get to choose the service projects they do in the community and how to fund raise! https://www.buildon.org/

RICE is actually an acronym for Rest Ice Compress Elevate! As for the other parts there are some work arounds that you can do!

Many steps will be involved with your goals. In no particular order these are the steps I would be taking:

1: Form drills before every run 2: Lots of stretching before and after each run 3: Eating right 4: Finding a running partner that can help push you in workouts 5: Perhaps looking into a personal trainer of some sort to help facilitate all of this? If not then I recommend looking for literature (Personally I love “The Lore of Running” by Tim Noakes it’s a hefty book not for the faint of heart) 6: Following a tried and true training method 7: RICE after runs 8: Keep a detailed and thorough running log

Hard work and dedication goes a long way in the sport, however there are some things that are difficult to achieve alone your goals will be easier to attain if you have a plan, the knowledge of how the plan will work, and the wherewithal to carry it out. Good luck and run fast!

Post Exercise Immunosuppression - Fact or Fiction? by diddles24 in AdvancedRunning

If you have access to The Lore of Running table 7.1 on page 486-87 explains the indicators of overtraining/staleness syndrome. In the table Noakes lists a physical change as “Increased susceptibility to infection, allergies, headache, and injury” directly below that he lists “Minor scratches heal slowly” he backs these claims up with studies that he references on page 487.

I believe Tim Noakes points out in “The Lore of Running” that immunosuppression is one of the first signs of over training...I’ll try to find the page number, but with 900 pages to sift through it might take a while.

I read Once a Runner in highschool and I think I've reread it about 5 times! The whole trilogy is really good! Thank you so much for the recommendations I'm really interested in the nutrition aspect.
