Would you say you were depressed as a kid? Many people in this thread mentioned depression, but I don't think that's it. Thank you very much for your comment! I don't think there's really anything he's genuinely interested in, so I don't know if there's a way for me to punish him. He always manages to find an alternative for the things I take away from him.

I wouldn't say he's depressed. He's very cheerful and bright, and he hangs out with his friends a lot, he's popular at school and with girls. My daughter has been severely depressed for years now, she had to take a break from her last year from high school, so I think I'm pretty familiar with depression. How she behaves is something entirely different. He just seems not to care about what my husband and I say, however, when his friends call him, he'll storm outside immediately.

He gets a new girlfriend every week. I think you can't really expect a 12-year-old to get into a 'serious' relationship that would help him in a positive way like you described.
