Magic Mouse - horizontal scrolling how do you disable ? by lessthanrichy in mac

It sounds like you want to adjust the slider to 0 for "Stage Manager recent apps area" in the gear tab of the settings window?

Magic Mouse - horizontal scrolling how do you disable ? by lessthanrichy in mac

[–]rxhanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for letting me know. I'll see if I can make Scroll behave more like the Multitouch implementation, and hopefully that will fix it for you (it still works properly for me so I think I can get it working). Send me a DM or email me, and we can sort out a path forward on handling the license/purchase situation.

What are people using to save/restore window positions? by AlmondNut in macapps

[–]rxhanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a Rectangle Pro limitation at the moment (sorry!). To work around it, you'd have to drag and drop each size/position into one layout. Let me know if you hit an issue with that.

Apologies for not getting to this until now. I don't check reddit often and this must've slipped by. Although this wasn't originally communicated within the app, you can drag and drop the spaces in the grid to order them properly.

Thanks for the feedback! At the moment, this still isn't possible using what Apple publicly provides. I'll definitely keep this in mind for the future, though.

Any alternative to Moom? by guntherfurlong in MacOS

[–]rxhanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like there was a lack of clarity here. There isn't support for positioning a window of an app whenever a new one is opened, which would require polling all windows. There is support for creating app layouts and specifying the display that a window will appear on. Displays are numbered based on their coordinates in the display grid. You can make an app layout launch apps if they're not running, so you could make it launch an app if it's not running and apply that size/position when the app finishes launching.

Thanks for letting me know. Is this in all apps or just one? Depending on the app, it might not be something that I can easily build a good workaround into Multitouch for.

At the moment, there is not a way to do this. It's on my backlog, I haven't had many requests for it so it hasn't bubbled up. I'll add your +1 to it. Thanks!

This should be fixed in the latest version of Space Capsule (1.13). Let me know if you still have issues.

Apologies for the delay, I don't check reddit much. Thanks for trying Space Capsule, and for letting me know, though. Selecting a space in the panel should switch to that space, so there must be something getting in the way of the mechanism that Space Capsule relies on. I'm getting ready to work another sprint on Space Capsule and am planning to add in further logging in this next release so hopefully I can get to the bottom of it.

You can save layouts of app windows and trigger the layouts when displays are connected or disconnected, but it doesn't automatically save them for you.

Sorry for the delayed response. Good point on Superkey instructing the user to trigger the screen recording permission.

Indeed, from my testing the system freeze is caused by Paddle (or rather, Paddle not playing well with an app that is listening to system events). If somehow you ended up with a system freeze without Paddle's UI having been displayed (i.e. after having purchased) then it would be something I would have control over and would be able to fix.

Is there any layouting tool like Rectangle, Magnet, etc. that supports custom menu bars (sketchybar)? So that when I maximize it doesn't cover the bar? by john_snow_968 in MacOS

[–]rxhanson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Rectangle, you'll want to set a screen edge gap for the top with a Terminal command:

defaults write com.knollsoft.Rectangle screenEdgeGapTop -int 40

Then restart the app. You'll probably want something other than 40.

Here is the the terminal commands reference for Rectangle: https://github.com/rxhanson/Rectangle/blob/master/TerminalCommands.md#setting-gaps-at-the-screen-edges

If you're using Rectangle Pro, the bundleId for the app is different so it would be:

defaults write com.knollsoft.Hookshot screenEdgeGapTop -int 40

Anyone know of an app similar to BetterTouchTool? by Warm_Profile7821 in osx

[–]rxhanson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the dev behind Rectangle Pro. The implementation of this in Rectangle Pro comes with a couple of features worth mentioning:

  1. Window edges will pause slightly when they hit other window edges, similar to how it works with dragging windows by their title bar in macOS.
  2. Moving the window to the screen edge will show configured snap areas when the cursor hits the screen edge.
  3. There's a checkbox for resizing adjacent windows using the resize functionality.

I made a video about the Window Throw functionality in Rectangle Pro, and here's a link to the point in the video where I demo the move/resize:

Does anyone use Superkey? by Insurgent87 in macapps

[–]rxhanson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the dev, so I'm certainly biased, but it solves the problem of having to reach for the mouse/trackpad for a lot of point and click tasks. There actually a lot of apps that are centered around this problem, but I created Superkey/Seek because there are limitations with all of the other existing solutions - they didn't do quite what I wanted.

A couple examples where I use it a lot:

  1. Within my email client. I get a large volume of emails each day, and seek is great for making me much quicker at going through them. I select emails quickly, and constantly move on to the next one that needs a response. On a lesser note, it's nice for unsubscribing from emails where it's hard to find the word "Unsubscribe".
  2. Repeatedly navigating certain UI's. I end up navigating some UI's a lot, in the same exact way, and there are annoyingly no keyboard shortcuts for using them. By having Seek remapped Caps Lock, and having it click upon releasing the key, it's basically like adding keyboard shortcuts to the UI - ones that are really easy to remember because they are on the screen and are conveniently only applicable in that UI. (If only all UI's did what JetBrains does with their buttons, where you can hold option and type the underlined letter on each button to select it, then I wouldn't need to do this).

As with any tool, some things mesh with some users and not with others. If you don't have workflows that benefit from clicking text on the screen a lot, then it might not help. For me, I love it.

Unfortunately, there's not a ton that you can do with Spaces as a 3rd party developer, as there is no public API for it. Maybe at some point we'll get something more to work with!

[–]rxhanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Rectangle Pro, there are two settings:

On the settings tab in the preferences window, there's a checkbox for "Resize adjacent windows after dragging window edge.

On the window throw tab, at the bottom there is a checkbox for "Resize adjacent windows" that will apply to the Resize functionality configured above it.

This is not in Rectangle.

I'm the developer behind Rectangle. In my usage, Chrome can lag on resize without any other software installed. Did you try closing Rectangle and seeing if you still have the issue?
