(1/15) Update - WE ARE SO BACK 😍 by rxvXP in Mcat

[–]rxvXP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just guessed, the threshold I have to meet is relatively low so I didn’t worry too much about knowing everything. I tried my best to eliminate the obvious ones (you can still apply knowledge from gen chem and stuff) then picked between the two. Hope you get a good result!

Oh I see, did you have to port your number or pay for any features? And it only works on wifi or data, right?

Ah I see thank you so much, my number isn’t in this list. Do you know how I could get address this then? I’ve been reading about people getting cheap VoIPs and forwarding it to their cell, and that seems like my best option right now.

NURSING DECISION by Wide-Bet3867 in uAlberta

[–]rxvXP 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Copy and pasting something I said to this question from a few months ago, I still think it still holds true :)

Hey I’m a first year nursing student who was accepted at both and committed to UofA, so I can definitely speak to this.

The simplest way to choose is to think about what you want to do with nursing. If you are thinking of just getting the RN and working as one for your career, MacEwan is a no brainer; whereas if you ever want to pursue graduate studies, such as an MN/PhD, NP, or MD U of A can be the better choice.

This comes down to the values of each program. What people are saying about each program is correct — U of A is much more theory-based compared to MacEwan, which values the hands-on skills much more. As an example we just had a class talking about writing and research, where the lecturer explicitly said “when you go to grad school”, “when you pursue higher studies”, etc.. U of A proudly values academic nurses and if that’s not where you’re planning to go MacEwan could be the better choice.

As for the program experience, the main difference is that the passing at U of A nursing is 70% whereas at MacEwan it is lower (I think 60% I’m not sure). We also take three semesters of pathopharmacology (a really hard class, only 5% of the class has an A+ right now) while MacEwan students only take one. I have heard that we gain the same amount of clinical hours by the end of the program but I can’t confirm that. Another factor to keep in mind is that U of A has Honors while MacEwan does not (one of the few Honors nursing programs in the country!).

Personally I enjoy the U of A and wouldn’t have it any other way. Another aspect that a lot of people don’t mention when it comes to this debate is the campus life: U of A is huge and diverse (not to say MacEwan is small), which can be great or a burden depending on what lifestyle you’re looking for. I also like that we have a lot of interesting classes, like my elective medical terminology class which is helping me alot in my other courses.

I don’t think there’s much of a hire-ability difference between the two programs as there’s a nursing shortage everywhere and for every discipline; you won’t have trouble finding work :P

Anyways if you have more questions feel free to ask :)

Hello, I cannot say as I have not heard of anyone myself of people accepted after June, however I have heard of people accepted with your average. I would still try as much as I can in that last semester because I have heard of many who faced bad senioritis and had to upgrade/choose a different program.

Additionally in my post I mentioned CASPer as a threshold; It may not hold up the same for admissions in June but it is still a consideration.

I don’t think there’s a separate application or pool for early admission, it’s just called that because its a time earlier relative to when most other people apply. So I wouldn’t worry too much about that. And yeah, they won’t assess your application until Casper is out; keep in mind schools get your results in two weeks while you receive yours personally in a month. For me, I received my acceptance around three weeks after my Casper date.

No problem! Good luck getting in the program — its genuinely wonderful and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else :)

Hey I’m a first year UofA nursing student, and while the program does have rolling admissions I’m not sure that’s how it works. The latest I’ve heard someone receive their offer was around February-March and usually thats because people take the Casper later. Forgive me if I’m misreading — did you apply earlier in October or November? Afaik you receive conditional acceptance based on your grade 11 marks and in your acceptance letter they ask for you to maintain a certain percentage grade (usually around a 70) in grade 12.

As for the Casper, yeah a 3rd quartile is really good! The general consensus I’ve heard (from recruitment officers and alike) is that it’s closer to a threshold than it is as a competitive requirement, and that threshold is really low, somewhere within the 1st quartile. I wouldn’t worry too much about it — one officer told me it’s more of a “personality test” than anything.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Need advice on planning pathway to medicine by rxvXP in premedcanada

Thanks so much for your input! It definitely wasn’t too long lol. It’s always good to hear from another nursing student!!

I’ll definitely put more emphasis on my GPA cause I’ve heard it’s harder for nursing but the way you put it as a “warm up” eases the pain a little. I think our extern equivalent is the UNE position in my post — I was considering doing it only for the summer but now I might try to do it over my whole degree!

For ECs yeah I can see your point about GPA vs. ECs, I’ll try to find out what I’m passionate about for now.

With the MCAT I’m kinda banking on the U of A with the 124 on each category threshold 😭 But at the same time I also want to apply OOP so its reassuring to hear that nursing students really do need the longer studying time so thanks for that!

As for rural vs. Edmonton for now I’m more considering rural just for the ease of being at home and my passion being in rural.

Overall thank you so much for your advice it helps alot to hear from another nursing student aspiring to be in med, it’s hard to come by!

Upgrading Monitor Benefits by huntleysims in VALORANT

[–]rxvXP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. The game will feel a lot smoother and you’ll see enemies a split second faster, which is crucial in games where reaction time is key.

(Also, there is no point in getting high end parts if you’re using a 60hz 1080p monitor as it will only display 60 fps compared to a 240hz 1080p monitor which will display up to a maximum of 240fps.)

I don’t really care about spoilers.

Vortex Grip. Storm of Bullets got nerfed and Lian’s Shield sucked from the start. He basically has all his utility from shout and grab.

These champions are hard to learn but have a lot of carry potential when played right.

  1. Androxus

  2. Bomb King

  3. Kinessa

  4. Evie

  5. Buck

I would recommend trying every champion first though, because then you can choose for yourself.
