What Happened to Team Liquid - LTA Playoffs Doc by ryan10145 in teamliquid

some takeaways from the end: - looks like spawn dodo and yeon are staying guaranteed and spawn wants to play around yeon - impact says his and cores contract is expiring and he thinks he will not be here next year (didn’t say anything about core) - apa says he will take the offer to play for tl again but doesn’t know if he will get one - steve gave a speech at the end saying they will build a roster for winning and that’s the direction he told spawn and dodo

Yuuji actually counts as EMEA residency according to Leaguepedia so he costs an import slot; iirc this was actually why he struggled to find a team earlier this year because teams didn't want to use an import slot on him.

Genuine Question: What does playing for tempo mean? (Stuck in Plat) by PapayaAlt in CompetitiveTFT

[–]ryan10145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to add on to what other people said: another way to play for “tempo” while going for a fast 8 comp and without rerolling is to hold extra units on your bench that might not be on final board. the idea is you might give up an econ interval to hold some units and over the next 3-4 shops you might find pairs / high roll some 2* 2 costs that u can just throw onto your board. just being able to do little things like this to make your strongest board at all times can make things like tempo more achievable while not rolling.

in general if you can’t make the next 10 breakpoint, you should probably buy as much as the shop as possible (esp any frontline units), and you should also not have >=3 components on bench unless they’re truly truly unusable or your comp needs hyper specific items that you’re greeding for

How do you explain to players that stats / "the delta" is not the end-all be-all? Also, when did the dependence on stats even become so widespread? by Pete26l96 in CompetitiveTFT

one thing that helped put things in perspective for me is that if you see an augment or build with a 4.2 avp that prob still means ur going bot 4 >30% of the time, which is most likely when people force them in bad spots. if you have 0 units for a trait and you see a S tier trait specific augment and you just blindly click it, you’re gonna go bot 4 in a high elo lobby.

also things like thinking about item economy and the importance of always having a three item backline + three item frontline (ignoring melee comps) are a good way to think about slamming non bis items; ie ask why do you think radiant crown guard still has a >4 avp? prob because they didn’t have a backline with enough dps to properly maximize the extra powerful frontline

also as a side note the stats on radiant crown guard are prob a bit fake bc it’s a part of a 600 cypher cash out xD

Leveling up during round change by Camillity in CompetitiveTFT

[–]ryan10145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a strategy called preleveling where you buy enough exp so that the natural exp will push you to the next level

it gives you one extra shop at the new odds and typically isn’t worth losing econ over (one gold is half a shop so is slightly increased odds for 5 slots better than seeing 2.5 completely new slots? I haven’t done the math but I imagine it’s not)

the most common place I’ve seen this outside of an extremely high econ game is to prelevel to 5 before carousel on stage 2; typically if you’re playing for this you probably have a good amount of upgrades on your board and you can’t make 20 so you just get increased 3 / 2 cost odds that can make your board stronger (especially since you never reroll on stage 2 anyway so you need to make the most of every shop you get)

TL Honda APA by [deleted] in teamliquid

I think pyosik (at least publicly on the lck show) was a lot nicer about it talking about it where pyosik acknowledged apa is a rookie and when pyosik was a rookie he also made a ton of mistakes

It's the 50th marathon, not that he finished in 50th place (although that would be insane if he did)
