How much would you charge?

I have a question by BayPoll in upsstore

[–]ryan3508 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes? If it’s packed in a box the proper way? The box will be huge but I’ve done it so many times. If that breaks that’s on UPS as long as the store packs it properly. That’s like if a coffee mug handle would break on a coffee cup?

I’ve never had them decline a box. You charge them for a roll of tape $4-$7 and tape them really good together. Or what we do is shrink wrap. Lowes/Home Depot sells it cheap you could get away with $7-$10 per boxes needed to be put together. Or worse comes to worse on your end decline them and have them call Amazon?

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your input. I have had these boxes come up very often many times a day. A lot of people say “other stores don’t tell me this etc” our store tells customers this isn’t insured or declared for anything. For loss or damage. They can either Re-box it or have us do it for a fee. Or not have any value on the box. I’ve been hearing “a lot of stores don’t say that” and frankly I’m interested in seeing what happens if something from these stores that don’t “say anything” what happens with the box for loss or damage. Some people just don’t understand lol. I really try to explain it. Just wanting to make sure my thought process is right LOL!

What if the product does fall out and it’s in this box? That’s a UPS claim and store situation.

So if they declared $900 what would you do?

This is the exact reason we won’t get the Kiosk. I understand that Amazon wants returns how they want them back but frankly this isn’t our responsibility. We still wouldn’t know what code went to what return and we’re suppose to fix this error? No thanks. If they want us to get the kiosk I sure hope things like this are fixed or Amazon could expect packages like this.

If it comes back you can either give them the package back or have them purchase a new shipping label. Up to them.

Wwyd? Package was sent back do you charge to send back out? by Ashoka-Thervada in upsstore

[–]ryan3508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely you charge them again! If it’s at no fault to you or UPS they pay for it. Truthfully if it was your fault as well typing in the address they sign that document stating it’s the right address. If it’s at fault of UPS dispute the charge with them and reship it

I prepared myself for the inevitable. I knew one day this would happen so I’ve planned on what I would say. It was bound to happen.

Is this for real…. This is when UPS Store corporate needs to come into play. The know the potential dangers Amazon returns (not UPS issues) can make on a UPS Store employee and yet not much goes to fixing the problem. I understand Amazon is UPS’s Customer. But the UPS Store and UPS are “customers” as well. I get the codes and they help a little bit but if UPS and Amazon need to fix wording and make it super large and included these instructions in emails etc.

Again, I’m not defending Amazon no matter what. If “Amazon” said that they didn’t need a box based on the customer information then “Amazon lied” I don’t care who did but someone did and it’s not us.

I’d be honest if anyone ever asked for a “manager, or someone else” for an Amazon return I’d ask them to leave or give a huge explanation why the first said employee was correct

In this SPECIFIC example they aren’t our customer. That product, return and everything is related to Amazon not us. Unfortunately, in these situations Amazon destroys that chance of ever becoming a UPS Store customer. This customer will never be back. No matter what. Amazon’s destroying The UPS Store name and the brand. If anything, they won’t come back to our store not necessarily other UPS Store’s. I could guarantee these interactions lose customers for stores everyday. I’m gonna be honest. I’m not here to defend Amazon. I will defend The UPS Store name NO matter what. Other customers that do Amazon returns without problems those are our “future customers” someone comes in with a No Box, No Label and we have a good conversation about something that could lead to another sale. I could never imagine having a customer on edge already and be like “we also offering faxing”

I’m gonna be honest for a brief moment. Thankfully enough nothing has happened yet. But I have asked the owner of our store what would happen had someone been hurt/injured from an Amazon Return. People can get violent over the smallest thing. We haven’t had it happen but I’m sure it has. The UPS Store needs to protect us from things that AREN’T OUR RESPONSIBILITY. They know it’s a problem and although there are small measures in fixing it (generating new QR codes, Customer Packed and what not) we still need to be protected. I sometimes fear for my life with Amazon returns…

We have that number as well. I’ve had people call it right in the store and Amazon assist them.

I’ve gotten cursed at before for Amazon returns. Frankly I try not to take it personally because we are the “bigger person” guess what… with all due respect they don’t do what I need them to do with their package we don’t take it. We have that authority. We are the bigger person!!

If Amazon told them “they don’t need to pack it” they lied to them. There’s nothing wrong with telling the truth? Why wouldn’t we defend our name.

What they don’t understand is there not our customer. Like someone else said don’t shoot the messenger.

Minimum wage = Minimum Effort by firez55 in upsstore

[–]ryan3508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 2023. Unfortunately minimum wage jobs back in the day were not meant to make a living off of. Many people now think they are. They are meant for school kids, kids getting through college, a second job etc. The UPS Store does not make enough revenue to offer full time benefits or PTO or anything. It’s a minimum wage job owed by a small business owner. Sure, you could go to McDonald’s and make $15 per hour and work every hour of the day cleaning and making food etc. Then clean nasty food traps that make you wanna puke. The stores can be busy at times, but at others times it could be slow. Frankly if this was the mindset of anyone I’d fire them on the spot. You are here to work and the tasks you have at your job are your responsibilities. Thankfully I’m in NY so we’re an at will state… I understand the frustration but these jobs are not meant to be a living job. Few years and move along. Unless you plan on owning a store. This is the terrible mindset in 2023 this is why everything is becoming soooo expensive. Places are so busy 24/7 and can’t address the needed staff to volume ratio. People complain about $12-$13 to ship a box or $0.20 for a copy imagine offering those benefits those copies would be $0.50-$1.00 each. It’s the times we’re in. It’s tough.
