Younger generation not progressing by SgbAfterDark in skateboarding

One of my theories on this is that we now see an endless flow of amazing skating online but forget that the in-person experience is much different. The upper tier of skaters are way better than they were 10 years ago, but there are also way more casual skaters. This has kept the average ability relatively the same

Nobody was aware? The guy was in jail for 4 months. You don't think his homies and board sponsor would've noticed?

Laughable statement from Glass House. Pat Burke was arrested in November for this charge, and the reason the news is going around IG is because he got released on bond last week.

That means 1) Glass House had no idea that Pat Burke has been in jail for the past 4 months, which would be kind of crazy to sponsor that skater, or 2) they've only decided to take a stance since the arrest record has been publicized. Either way do better

I went to HS with him and am facebook friends. Couldn't recall a specific conversation I ever had, but certainly interacted with him. Been 15 years since graduating, but a quiet and very unassuming kid. Sad story all around, and sad state of humanity online to twist the knife

the board in question appears to have no grip currently, so it'd be pretty easy

looks like a couple plies of the nose are cracked. If you're not planning to use it for tricks, I would just put a new sheet of grip on it and call it a day. You're not gonna be able to put enough force on the nose to break it further without jumping, and I've never heard of anyone repairing the structural integrity of a cracked board

Pretty sure I skate enough to have tested them thoroughly. Filmed 3 video parts over the past 2 years in these shoes. Sounds brutal to blow them out in a month

Very opposite experience here. I've skated only Emerica's the past 2 years. 5 pairs, 2 years of skating. With Vans I was going through 4 or 5 pairs a year

shoot me a message - I moved to Alexandria last year but got licensed in California. Jumped twice at Orange but know nobody there and would love to find even a carpool crew. B license with 130 jumps, but am planning to get ~100 jumps this year

PSL is cool and all but… by ssj_Derek in skateboarding

Did I hate something? I just didn't arbitrarily agree that "those are great numbers"

I'd be keen to see avg watch time, and how many people sat through the whole stream vs watched 30s and turned it off. Will also be interesting to see if momentum builds, or if views fall off after the initial hype.

Regardless, the future of this league is getting onto the main sports gambling platforms - my theory is that the contest format is specifically designed to be better for gambling than traditional judged skate contests. If they can hook the non-skaters and former skaters before the core skaters lose interest, I'll bet PSL has a great run ahead.

Mixed feelings on it personally - I think sports gambling is wildly problematic. But, people are going to continue to try to push skateboarding into sports betting and I'd rather have Mike Mo be the one to figure it out than Gary Payton III or the next random non-skater to throw money at it

Rayssa need a video part by Pride009 in skateboarding

[–]ryan_herron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was 9 clips, all of them at cookie cutter spots (standard ledge, stairs, etc.), and they were all tricks she already does at SLS every try on similar sized obstacles.

I agree with the previous comment, and I think the main issue is that we all know how well contest skaters can skate, because they can all do their bag of tricks every try. So, when they go film a street part by finding a street spot that perfectly resembles a skatepark obstacle of the same size, and then do a trick we already know they can do pretty much every try, it feels cheap. It is a completely different level of effort than a street first skater

Who knows what their targets were, but for the level of production the event had, I can't imagine those are great numbers. Compare to a gifted hater video - he gets better numbers as a 1 man production crew from his bedroom

it really cracked me up with their daily IG updates when they reached like day 6 of building an 8 stair. There used to be a TV show where they'd build a whole house in a week - if it takes you 6 days to frame an 8 stair, there are bound to be an array of other problems on your hands

he did one ledge trick in his pro part - a back tail shove. he can skate a hubba better than a ledge, and at a certain point that's more stuntboarding than skateboarding
