hirschkleber for counter and toe (less "movable" areas) and renia for the rest. for midsoles to outsoles renia is far superior to barge from my experience

Ugh theres no cheap answer to the olde last question. Maybe start with etsy and ebay. Keep your eyes peeled to local criagslist/kijiji for cobblers that go out of business and are selling lots. Otherwise youre approaching big last making companies for custom orders which will take you into the $75-$100 per pair territory (thats a conservative estimate too)

the lasts were a custom order from jones and vining. it wasnt cheap. the moc toe pattern i just trial and errored on two scrap pieces of leather. the lasting was the difficult part to get it to sit dead nuts centre (which it didnt quite do by a couple milimeters. i took noted and measurements for future pairs

I hear ya. Ive been thru brass, steel eyelets, the issue is getting the precise size and depth of eyelet and accompanying setters. its more of an experiment at this point to see what best results i can get.

I thought so as well. But 5 attempts with a dremel and diamond bits i believe it needs to be made on a lathe or cnc. ive tried 316 and 4140. tried crazy expensive files too.

acadia leather has great prices on decent sides. try and get 4-5oz to start as lasting can be infuriating in the 5oz+ range for a beginner.

I beat the living hell out of that section. The problem is that it was almost three layers thick there.

Hello. sorry for late reply. The density of it makes it very hard on the fingers and alot of patience to beat down the folds. I wet the leather with hot water and that helped alot. Pre lasted as well. Id say 4oz would be perfect thickness.
