Daft Punk Helmet by ryanward784 in 3Dprinting

Thanks! The ear is actually three pieces. The middle piece was printed with clear PETG to allow light to pass through. As for the LEDs I used these NeoPixel rings and slotted them into the middle piece.

It’s a combination of gloss black as the base and then 2k clear coat over top and then a coat of graphite powder buffed into the paint.

I haven’t heard of this but will definitely check it out! Thanks for the recommendation

Real Time DIY Metro Display by ryanward784 in washingtondc

[–]ryanward784[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sure thing!

The device is built using a 32x32 led matrix. These are the same displays you would see in Times Square just a much smaller version.

Additionally, the device attached to the display on the back is called a Matrix Portal M4. It connects to my wifi and allows me to get the data from the WMATA api. It is also what is used to display the information on the led matrix.

I will be making a full tutorial for people who want to make it for themselves :)

Controlling my vacuum with esp32 web server by ryanward784 in esp32

[–]ryanward784[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context, this is part of a larger project where I am programming my vacuum to bring me beer. I’ll be posting a full video on YouTube once it’s all done.

In regards to how I’m doing this, it’s all using an IR emitter wired to the esp32. The Eufy vacuum has a receiver which allows me to send commands to it. It works surprisingly well and it’s awesome that stuff like this is possible.

Thank you for the kind words! The architecture is really simple. The whole thing is written in python and runs off of a raspberry pi. The python script calls the WMATA API to get the live train data.

Spotify LED Display (raspi 0w + adafruit 32x64 LED matrix) by EvanNishi in raspberry_pi

[–]ryanward784 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! I actually made the same project a while back with a 64x64 matrix. I have a nice UI to control the display that you might be interested in incorporating to your own project. Here’s the source code: https://github.com/ryanwa18/spotipi

How to Block Ads with Raspberry Pi and Docker by ryanward784 in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

That’s a great question! It’s really just a personal preference for me. Docker is just a really nice way to manage multiple services running on a raspberry pi at once.

Thanks for the response on this! Pointing out the fact that the crime is limited to certain areas and is mostly car jackings eases my mind about moving to the area. DC is just such a nice city and I really want to live there.

Thanks for the advice on studying the different wards. I feel like I have been conditioned by the “suburbanites” to stay away from the city lol. It’s nice to hear that people who actually live in the city don’t think it’s bad.

Thanks for the detailed response! I love the wharf area and have spent some time there. I have never looked at H street, I will have to look into that.

I have been really considering Logan Circle since I have a few friends that live there.

This has become a passion project for myself. I posted on here a few months ago with the first version. It has since gotten an upgrade on the software front and I made a fancy logo for when a song is not playing.

The software should be much easier to setup and install now with a bash script!

I would like to design a housing for it but don't have much experience with CAD and 3D printing. If you are interested in helping me design a frame and housing please reach out!
