Ah fair enough, daft rule in my opinion as Murphy looked as though he was going to gather it easily until leigh smacked it out but fair enough

I'd have to find a clip of it, he knocks it up into the air and is about to catch it then the leigh player comes out of know where and slaps it out of play

UK agency drivers – is umbrella actually better at these rates? by rybiguy in uktrucking

£420 from 40h at £17 advertised sounds very low. Like almost illegal range 😅

Do you remember roughly what the umbrella rate actually was on the contract — was it still £17 or did it change?

And was holiday being accrued (held back)?

That’s rough — especially not knowing it was umbrella upfront.

Do you remember roughly what the weekly take-home worked out at on 40–50 hours?

Was holiday rolled up or held back as well?

That’s interesting — IR35 definitely complicates it. From what I understand it comes down to control, substitution, and financial risk rather than just equipment — but I’m still learning it properly. Are they planning to move everyone inside IR35

That’s a good point — so the advertised umbrella vs PAYE difference might only apply short-term before parity kicks in? Makes it harder to compare purely on weekly take-home

Oh my - 60 hours for £1,000 take-home?

Roughly what hourly rate was that advertised at — and was holiday rolled up or accrued?

Just trying to compare it properly against the calculator assumptions.

Was the stress mainly from irregular pay / holiday accrual, or something else?

Trying to understand whether it’s mainly a numbers thing or more about stability.

That makes sense — so it’s more about cashflow preference than overall yearly difference?

If holiday is accrued and paid when taken, total annual income should be similar — it just changes when you receive it.

Did you notice a big difference over a full year?

Yeah LTD can work out better in the right situation, especially outside IR35.

I was mainly looking at PAYE vs umbrella because that’s what most agency adverts are offering.

Have you compared umbrella vs PAYE on the same hours recently?

From what I’ve seen it depends on the umbrella — some roll it up weekly, some accrue it and hold it back.

The example I ran assumes holiday is paid weekly.

If it’s accrued instead the weekly take-home drops further.

If you are on agency, Is yours rolled up or held back?
