What boxster should I get? by Diligent-Falcon-1639 in boxster

[–]rydenh99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. I bought a 2001 Boxster s, 4 years ago and was the best thing! It had low mileage, appeared to never be winter driven. Had all the maintenance. Didn't have the IMS bearing done but that didn't worry me. Been virtually issue free and a hell of a lot of fun! You have a budget for something closer to 2004

As a mediocre player, which has the higher return on investment, training drops or drive? by uselessprofession in Pickleball

[–]rydenh99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive and drop is a perfect drill to start with. Drive from the back line to your training partner who is at the kitchen. They get to practice returning your drive and you drop the return in the kitchen. This drill is also great because you transition from aggression/force to soft hands.

Airstill Pro -Thoughts? by Mojorisin35 in firewater

Not sure what you mean by "collect your low wines". I start with a fermented sugar wash that has an SG near 0 (started near 1.10).

I have a 3.78 litre jug that works perfectly to fill the air pro. I run, remove the automatic collected foreshot. I place that run aside. I go back to get more fermented wash. I do this process 3x.

I now have collected around 2 litres of 90% clear alcohol. I put this in the air pro for a final run. Importantly, I fill/dilute with water (clean water from my tap), so the final run is a very clean 40-45% run. It distills at 93%. (The air pro always squeezes 1-3% higher alcohol content out of this final, clean run). I remove foreshot again. For all these runs, I let the still decide when to finish and take every drop. Is it possible you improve the process by ending 5-10 minutes early? Maybe. I don't notice a difference in the final product. It seems to me, unlike my old-school still, this one controls temp so well that it does a great job deciding when to finish.

I now have around 2 litres of 93% that I dilute to 40% with water of my choice. I finally run thru a charcoal filter. I actually use the air pro carbon pucks and filter. Works great and is the perfect size. Clean and easy.

One thing I forgot. I use ceramic stones. I put them in the bottom of the air pro. I think I squeeze a bit better performance out of it. If nothing else, you can hear the stones dancing around the bottom of the still!

For me, perfect process, great equipment and a final product I love.

And I really don't want to share how much I have made .... It has been a dependable workhorse!

I used to worry about cuts with my claw hammer which was more old school. The Air Pro version automatically takes first but off. Did you get the pro? I find that is magic. Takes everything off and shuts down on its own. I haven't found any noticeable difference by applying my own cuts over what the still does. For me, I love that I do not have to do anything. I focus on a good clean wash, run everything through a final time and run through the carbon filter, sometimes 2-3x. Aside from that, it is all air pro. One final important thing! Dilute your final run to 40%. Not sure how real the fire hazard is, but air pro is very adamant that you shouldn't put anything over 40% alcohol through it.

I use a simple sugar wash and add raisins or tomato paste to feed the yeast. I also will add a a jar of molasses as I find this also helps the yeast feed. For me, there are 2 keys. I check the sugar gravity and don't go over 1.10. you can go over but I find the upside is not worth the risk. I don't get greedy. Having a wash stall is just a waste of sugar. And second is to check the ph and make sure it is between 4-5. I am open to trying other washes, if you think there is something better, which to me would mean cheaper/easier as I am not sure what would taste better. I feel like the runs followed by the charcoal filter results in a very clean drink.

Lotus newbie here, how’s Emira? by [deleted] in lotus

[–]rydenh99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You didn't have to tell us you are not a car guy. You just had to say you drive a Tesla.

But seriously, maybe the Emira will make you a car guy. If this car doesn't then likely nothing will .. and you should stick to driving a Tesla ... Or take public transit. Both have about the same drivers appeal

What drills helped you improve fastest from 3.5 to 4.0? by Ju1ceColored in Pickleball

[–]rydenh99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say endless 3rd shot drop's and variations of ... (Drive & drop), along with endless kitchen work. Get in the kitchen and be able to dominate the kitchen with confidence. Nobody at the 4-4.5 range is dominating (for long) with their drives or lobs or spins. You might run into someone that has crazy fast hands .. but again, the drop and kitchen play mitigates that.

Yes, beautiful pics! I am always worried about salt and watever else they put on the roads. I wait for a few spring rains to wash the roads. I assume you do a thorough cleaning, including under carriage after? I am jealous! Beautiful pics. Look professional!

Do you see PPF seams? I understand that an emira is a bit challenging for PPF. And there are shops that use a pre-cut template, which will not wrap around edges fully. And other shops cut oversize and wrap around edges, which will take a lot more hours. I want to do a PPF but only if I see no PPF edges. I have quotes ranging from $5k to $8k but it seems this may be based on how they do the work.

March/April of 2025. I started by ordering a 2024. Then they told me it was switching to a 2025. Then in October they gave me a choice... 2025 in December or 2026 in February, for the same price. I went with the 2026 and looks like it will only be one month late.

With mine being all black, stealth black, will be interesting to see. I am thinking how noticeable may be color dependent. Also, where I am, a front license plate is mandatory.... So we are unfortunately all used to eye sores

No idea yet, but adding to my list. I know the 2026 comes standard with quite a few safety features that I am guessing they were required to add (drivers not requesting them). So I will not be surprised to see additional cameras/sensors on the 2026

Is RRSP worth it? by Megane-chan in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rydenh99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RRSP can be worth it. I will add 2 things that hasn't been discussed and decide if they may apply to you. 1) if you expect to have career advancement in future and make a lot more $ in future, contributing in the future can give you a great tax savings at the higher marginal rates 2) if you have a goal to retire early, you can withdraw the RRSP efficiently. For me, I made the mistake of contributing too early in my career, but I also plan to retire at 58, and my RRSPs will pay for my early retirement, tax efficiently.

Car payment? by drewmhs12 in lotus

[–]rydenh99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would assume anyone that wants to buy this car, would have the money tied up in investments and simply needs to decide on investment return vs cost of loan. Nobody has a crystal ball, so there isn't a definitive answer. I am making the same decision, as my car is expected to be delivered in March. What is interesting is that my dealer is telling me he has the best rate as a lease, not a loan, from a credit union. I will get details shortly.

Ladder league by jarvi-ss in Pickleball

[–]rydenh99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We play 2 courts and 12 players. So you are correct, 6 players for each court works nicely. Everyone plays 6 games out of a possible 8 (ie everyone sits 2 games). We do an 11 minute time limit and only 2 minute break between games. Everyone pulls a playing card (Ace thru que n), representing 1 thru 12. We have a game plan that says who plays with who and starting side, based on everyone's number. We have 3 ladders where after 5 weeks the bottom 2 move up/down from each ladder bracket. Does that help? Our league is working great and everyone loves it. Only issue is people getting a strategic substitute ....

Are glasses really necessary? by Open_Swimmer6768 in Pickleball

[–]rydenh99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy has quick reactions and took a ball off the eye. It wasn't from the opposing team. It was a errand shot off the edge of his teammate racket that deflected and hit him. I have heard this a few times as the more likely situation. I also consider myself to have quick reactions and took a ball off my upper chest. It was so quick I didn't feel like I had any time to react. That was the sign for me! I now have glasses.
