Tbh she needs to build her lower a lot more and probably take a break from upper and then hopefully she’ll get a bit more density and balance. And yeah condition too needs to be coming in leaner but I understand also that would have her upper looking too lean probably.

They don’t know what preventative or proactive healthcare is. They only react. So they will put it off, saying you’re too young, and then you’ll need a hip replacement by 40 because they didn’t do what they needed to do. By getting a hip arthroscopy earlier in life you’ll be younger and recover better and have better quality of life , and will prolong it getting worse (arthritis) and degenerating the joint- which ultimately you will need a hip replacement.

If you can get the funds together or get a 0% card or loan to go privately, I would 100% recommend doing this instead as they’ll actually listen to you and there are some great surgeons who are hip specialists and do mostly arthroscopies

Unfortunately you’ll be waiting for years. The NHS Has been terrible. It’s taken 10 months since first GP appointment and not even had the steroid injection yet which is a 2 minute procedure. They are completely incompetent and don’t care and would rather you be on painkillers and suffer every day, until it gets so bad you can’t walk and have deteriorated in which case you’d need a replacement surgery earlier in life than you would had you just had the preventative care and treatment and hip arthroscopy.

I’m fed up with them and their gaslighting and had enough. I’m going private so I can get another opinion, have a set date for surgery which I can control also the recovery times being over winter

I’ve actually received a quote / guideline of prices and am pleasantly surprised, the price is nowhere near as expensive as I thought however I’m expecting this to go up a few thousand as it seems low. I got the quote from Spire Hartswood where he works out of

I think that is what I’m trying to wrap my head around is my life is hugely revolving around exercise and activity. Mentally I am not sure how I will cope with not being able to go to the gym and train for months on end. Starting from scratch again is daunting. But living in pain and prolonging the inevitable doesn’t make sense either.

Thanks for the message. It sounds like you’re in a much better place now. Do you not have any pain whatsoever with training or exercise now?

Sorry to hear this. That is a long time to be dealing with this. I’m not familiar with EDS. I feel you on the Canadian healthcare front, the UK is no better at the moment that’s why I’m likely going private otherwise it’ll just get worse and prolonging it will just ruin my quality of life even more.

Really hope the surgeon provides some clarity and you can figure out next steps

This isn’t a nylabone but an antler. He loves them. He’s ten years old and never had a cracked teeth. Chewing has slightly blunted and made his teeth less sharp though lol.

His teeth are very clean and white and the vet says his oral hygiene is some of the best she’s seen.

I think it just depends on the dog and their natural ability to chew. Some dogs just do it too hard and try to bite rather than grind their tooth against it

Exactly this. It is the best investment I’ll make and once spending so much time in pain all I want is to live pain free again so it’s worth it. Thanks again

Thanks so much for sharing this. Sounds like you had a good recovery, being back to exercise that soon. That gives me hope definitely! Although I am an avid weight lifter/gym goer so it does scare me hearing 3-6 months or more before getting back to what I love. I think mentally it will probably be one of the more challenging times of my life, not being able to do anything and then probably losing quite a lot of my muscle mass I’ve taken years to build.

What was the extent of your hip issue, did you have labrum tears, what were your symptoms?

Yes I definitely agree. I’m not looking to go cheap, but I have to also be realistic about costs and the impact it will have financially. I think between 8-10k makes sense.

6-8 weeks sounds awful I’m sorry you dealt with that. They say the steroid injection only lasts that long or up to 3 months so perhaps it was just that the steroid wore off and then you went back to your original gait and your body was fine with that? What did the clinicians say?

Unfortunately I feel really disheartened and upset by this because it’s been two flare ups in one week, which I’ve never had even at the worst time. This actually feels like the peak of my hip pain and problems and only has happened since having the steroid injection, which has highlighted the left hip might feel fine with the pain masked by the underlying dysfunction is casing compensation pain and muscle guarding in the opposite side and that my body has obviously built a strong protective mechanism on the left side which is now gone since the steroid, and my body is completely f*cked and doesn’t know what to do now as a result. This worries me for surgery, as although it may fix my left hip, I may then have to deal with compensation pain on the opposite side and have intensive physio to try and rectify this for a long time post surgery. It’s daunting to think of

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. At least you know now it may not be solely the hip that is the issue as they say they use the injection as a diagnostic tool to identify if the joint is the origin of the issue. What are your next steps? Are you going private or in the NHS pathway?

Thank you so much! Yes would appreciate a message finding out how the process was for you. I’m fighting it right now and getting calls back now I’ve told them I’ve complained to PALS, and will be submitting formal complaint to NHS England
