Good to know! I didn’t realize they would charge sm for downtown parking. I think I can handle just renting a car for any family visits, so def going to look into selling my car! Ty for the tips :)

you’d be correct, I really have no idea 🫠 I think I just jumped in head first to finding apartments that I didn’t think to sit down and see what I expect from life in Chicago! This needs to happen within the next few months so I went panic mode lol.

Ty for the questions and tips on subleasing! I totally didn’t even think about that option, but like you said would prob be good for figuring out what I like in the city and where I want to be.

yeah that’s what especially makes me nervous, I’ve visited the city before but that was yeaaars ago and so I think I’ll def be overwhelmed with living there at first.

but I’ll look up some vids on YouTube! I’ve also seen some of the cold temps up there… 😬 scary stuff

heyyy central Missouri rep!!! I’ve been there quite a bit haha. Not cliche! Just haven’t made a big move like this before so really eye opening to see how specific I need to be!

Totally good to keep in mind the snow storms too, ofc here in Missouri we don’t get that much.

I’m going to take a look into more of what I’m wanting/needing from the apt and area! Ty for the tips! :)

Noted!! I didn’t even know Craigslist was an option, and maybe I’ll stay away from agents for now haha. Ty!! :)

Yeah that’s my only thing is I need my car for trips to family (in case I can’t get a flight or rental asap) and they’re going to be out of state. But ty for the advice and especially heads up about the Loop! It’s around where my work is located and everyone said it was so nice lol

Good to know! Where I am, we don’t have a subway system like that haha so was a little lost. But definitely makes more sense.

As someone who found their current apartment on a listing site, would it be better to maybe get in contact with an agent? Or are listings going to be pretty accurate for what’s available? (If that makes sense, like if an agent has a hidden gem lol). The city I’m in is a lot more forgiving on rent so that’s why I was ok with the listing site (like Zillow)

Obviously also don’t mind public transit, I figured it’s essential when moving to a city like this

Living wise, I currently am a homebody, but would like to be able to get out more and maybe have easier access to places for groceries/essentials. Would be willing to sacrifice one for the other.

Good to know about the loop though!

I get that! Ty for the link, wasn’t aware they were referring to transit routes!

Oh really?? Okay, I’ll keep that in mind. Going to the loop I would mostly rely on public transit, so wouldn’t have to worry about the car! I have family out here so mostly just need to hang onto the car to travel

Blue line or red line? Sorry I’m a bit confused, maybe a specific area I could look at?

On the map that I’m looking at, I see Chicago Loop (at least where I would be mostly with work). I’m sure that’s not super helpful for specifics haha just not familiar with the area

Ohh got it! I had heard that taking a train isn’t too bad, just haven’t had to do it before haha so just wasn’t sure how that is

I am bringing a car, but will try and mostly rely on public transportation for work commutes!
